  • Patent number: 8767823
Abstract: A method for frame memory compression divides each of a plurality of image frames in a frame memory into a plurality of blocks and quantizes a plurality of pixel values inside each block according to a predefined parameter, thereby generating a quantized block and a plurality of removed bits from the binary representation of the plurality of pixel values. A predictor is used to produce a residual block for the quantized block. A variable length encoder takes the residual block as an input and produces a coded bitstream. A packing unit is used to take the coded bitstream and the number of removed bits generated by the quantizer as inputs, so as to produce an entire codeword sequence of the block that meets a target bit rate by using a structure called group of blocks (GOB) to flexibly share available spaces of the blocks in the same GOB.

  • Publication number: 20140181363
Abstract: An embodiment is a technique to adapt behavior of a solid-state drive (SSD) to extend lifespan of the SSD. Real environmental information is received from an environmental processor. The real environmental information corresponds to an environment of the SSD. A behavior model is selected based on a real environmental model and an internal data usage model. If a new behavior model is selected, the environmental processor is informed about the new behavior model. The environmental processor sends control commands to a power management module to apply new power policy to the SSD. Information on the new behavior model is made available for query. If current behavior model is selected, the current behavior model is maintained.

  • Publication number: 20140179538
Abstract: To help reveal the pathogenesis of these lesions, we purified the DNA from Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm (IPMN) cyst fluids from 19 patients and searched for mutations in 169 genes commonly altered in human cancers. We identified recurrent mutations at codon 201 of GNAS. We found that GNAS mutations were present in 66% of IPMNs and that either KRAS or GNAS mutations could be identified in 96%. In eight cases, we could investigate invasive adenocarcinomas that developed in association with IPMNs containing GNAS mutations. In seven of these eight cases, the GNAS mutations present in the IPMNs were also found in the invasive lesion. GNAS mutations were not found in other types of cystic neoplasms of the pancreas or in invasive adenocarcinomas not associated with IPMNs. These data suggest that GNAS mutations can inform the diagnosis and management of patients with cystic pancreatic lesions.

  • Publication number: 20140178952
Abstract: The invention provides a simple and effective method for improving acid tolerance of P. acdipropionici by adding arginine and/or aspartic acid to the culture medium. The acid tolerance of P. acdipropionici was improved by 60% and 20% respectively through adding arginine or aspartic acid into the culture medium. Consequently, PA production was improved by 36% and 26%, respectively. The maximal PA production was obtained by adding both 20 mM arginine and 20 mM aspartic acid. This method can be applied to large scale production of PA.

  • Publication number: 20140181679
Abstract: Aspects of trending and trend-influencing approaches usable in content feeds of business software frameworks are described. A trending topic can be created based on a plurality of feed content items generated by a plurality of feeds across at least a subset of a customer organization using a business software architecture. The creating can include identifying an activity relating to a business process or scenario of the customer organization that underlies the feed content items. In some options, a super-user can insert artificial trends.
