  • Publication number: 20170095857
Abstract: A casting method and cast article are provided. The casting method includes providing a casting furnace, the casting furnace including a withdrawal region in a lower end, positioning a mold within the casting furnace, positioning a molten material in the mold, partially withdrawing the mold a withdrawal distance through the withdrawal region in the casting furnace, the withdrawal distance providing a partially withdrawn portion, then reinserting at least a portion of the partially withdrawn portion into the casting furnace through the withdrawal region, and then completely withdrawing the mold from the casting furnace. The reinserting at least partially re-melts a solidified portion within the partially withdrawn portion to reduce or eliminate freckle grains. The cast article includes a microstructure and occurrence of freckle grains corresponding to being formed by a process comprising partially withdrawing, reinserting, and completely withdrawing of a mold from a casting furnace to form the cast article.

  • Patent number: 9418459
Abstract: A method for filling closed regions in a drawing using a region filling tool that may appear as a paint bucket. Rather than independently selecting regions to fill or filling based on style-by-layer techniques, the user selects a seed region such that other regions of the drawing are filled if parameters of the other regions match the parameters of the seed region. Matching criteria parameters may include an exact match parameter, a shape matching parameter, a layer matching parameter, and a line weight matching parameter. The parameters may be used alone or in conjunction with other parameters. In this manner, multiple regions in the drawing that are similar to the seed region may be filled using one interaction with the region filling tool. This approach allows the user to more efficiently and intuitively fill regions in the drawing.

  • Patent number: 9384344
Abstract: Systems and methods, including computer software adapted to perform certain operations, can be implemented for preventing content received from non-trusted sources from accessing protected data. A sequence of instructions and multiple permission indicators associated with the sequence of instructions are received. One or more of permission indicators are associated with a protected activity. An instruction within the sequence of instructions associated with the protected activity is identified. A determination is made whether execution of the identified instruction is permitted based, at least in part, on the one or more permission indicators, and the protected activity is performed if execution of the identified instruction is permitted.

  • Publication number: 20150196598
Abstract: Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a lethal complication of allograft transplantation. The current strategy of using immunosuppressive agents to control GVHD may cause general immune suppression and limit the effectiveness of allograft transplantation. Adoptive transfer of regulatory T cells (Treg) can prevent GVHD in rodents, indicating the therapeutic potential of Treg for GVHD in humans. However, the clinical application of Treg-based therapy is hampered by the low frequency of human Treg and the lack of a reliable model to test their therapeutic effects in vivo. Human alloantigen-specific Treg are generated from antigenically-naïve precursors in a large scale ex vivo using allogeneic activated B cells as stimulators. Here, a human allogeneic GVHD model is established in humanized mice to mimic GVHD after allograft transplantation in humans.

  • Patent number: 8969229
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to high rate adsorbents and a method for their manufacture involving the steps of component mixing, extrusion, spheronization and calcination. The component mixing can involve both dry mixing in addition to wet mixing of an adsorbent with a binder, if required, and a fluid such as water. The paste so formed from the mixing stage is extruded to produce pellets which are optionally converted to beads by spheronization using in one embodiment, a marumerizer. The product is harvested and calcined to set any binder or binders used and/or burn out any additives or processing aids. This basic manufacturing scheme can be augmented by extra processing steps including ion exchange and activation to alter the composition of the adsorbents, as required.
