  • Publication number: 20220166450
Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses, including electronic devices and computer-readable storage media, for adaptively switching wireless connections between antennas of a wearable electronic device and a host electronic device. One device includes a wearable electronic device with a first and second housing, each housing including two or more antennas. The wearable electronic device is configured to establish and monitor a wireless cross-link between two antennas in different housings, or between antennas in one housing and antennas of a host electronic device. The wearable electronic device can monitor the integrity of the wireless cross-link, and establish an updated cross-link in response to the wireless cross-link not meeting a predetermined integrity threshold. The wearable electronic device can monitor a wireless cross-head link between housings of a wearable electronic device at the same time as a wireless cross-body link between the wearable electronic device and the host electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20220159782
Abstract: Role switch between wirelessly paired master/slave devices may be performed without perceived glitches in audio. The devices negotiate an anchor point, such as a point in time or a point in relation to other events, for performing the role switch. To prepare for the role switch prior to the anchor point, the devices communicate a variety of information, such as information for communicating with the host device after the role switch and information for bit processing after the role switch. The slave device may use such information to serve in the master role, without the host knowing that a role switch occurred.

  • Patent number: 11309744
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for providing wireless power to implanted devices. Consistent with some embodiments, a power system for providing wireless power to a device implanted in a body of an individual includes a first antenna loop that produces a first electromagnetic wave and at least one second antenna loop that produces a second electromagnetic wave. The first and second electromagnetic waves may interfere with one another to produce an interference pattern including interference maxima. Further, a location of at least one of the interference maxima may be at or substantially close to the device implanted in the body of the individual. A broad distribution pattern at the surface of the skin can reduce the specific absorption rate of the transmission, while focusing the transmission toward the implanted device improves the antenna system's transfer efficiency.

  • Patent number: 11271605
Abstract: A system and method is provided for improving signal quality in communications among fully wireless systems including a host device in wireless communication with a primary accessory which further wirelessly communicates with a secondary accessory. The host device generates information for use by the primary accessory in determining which channels have interference and should be avoided. The information may include an adaptive frequency hopping (AFH) channel map for communications between the host and the primary device, from which the primary device can infer which frequency bands have interference and generate a second AFH map for communications between the primary accessory and the secondary accessory accordingly. In other examples the information includes the second AFH map generated by the host, for example, based on an out-of-band scan. In further examples, the information includes an indication of channels used by recognized nearby access points.

  • Publication number: 20220057476
Abstract: Techniques and apparatuses are described that implement electromagnetic vector sensors (EMVS) for a smart-device-based radar system. Instead of including an antenna array of similar antenna elements, the radar system includes two or more electromagnetic vector sensors. At least one of the electromagnetic vector sensors is used for transmission and at least another of the electromagnetic vector sensors is used for reception. Each electromagnetic vector sensor includes a group of antennas with different antenna patterns, orientations, and/or polarizations. An overall footprint of the two electromagnetic vector sensors (e.g., one for transmission and one for reception) can be smaller than antenna arrays used by other radar systems, thereby enabling the radar system to be implemented within space-constrained devices.

  • Publication number: 20220031172
Abstract: Techniques and apparatuses are described that implement a smart device-based radar system capable of detecting human vital signs using a compact circularly-polarized antenna. A radar system includes at least one compact circularly-polarized antenna with a patch antenna and a quadrature hybrid coupler. The quadrature hybrid coupler is on a separate plane that is above or below the patch antenna. By vertically stacking the patch antenna with the quadrature hybrid coupler, lateral dimensions of the radar system can be reduced relative to other antenna configurations or designs. The quadrature hybrid coupler can also have a ring-shape design to improve isolation and polarization purity of the compact circularly-polarized antenna relative to a rectangular design. The compact circularly-polarized antenna enables a radar system operating at frequencies between approximately 1 gigahertz (GHz) and 24 GHz to be implemented within a variety of small smart devices.
