  • Patent number: 9108316
Abstract: A robot is used to repeatedly assemble parts during a continuous production run of parts to be assembled. There are parameters of the robot associated with the assembly. These parameters are used to assemble the parts. Simultaneously with that repeated assembly the robot parameters are optimized. The parts to be assembled have a starting position for the assembly and the simultaneous optimization of the robot assembly parameters also includes the learning of the starting position. The robot assembly parameters can be optimized in a predefined manner. The optimized parameters can then be verified and the optimized and verified robot assembly parameters may then be used in place of the parameters of the robot associated with the parts assembly along with the learned starting position.

  • Publication number: 20150217452
Abstract: A method and system to optimize the parameters of a robot used in an assembly process. The assembly process is categorized based on its nature which may be cylindrical, radial and multi-stage insertion. The search pattern and search parameters are specified. The parameters are optimized and the optimized parameter set are verified and when a predetermined criteria such as assembly cycle time set and/or success rate is met the optimization process stops. When the optimization stops the verified parameters are used to cause the robot to perform the categorized assembly process. If the parameters do not meet the predetermined criteria, another round of optimization using the same or other parameters can be performed.

  • Publication number: 20130134861
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a mercury vapor discharge lamp and methods for making same, where the lamp comprises a phosphor coating layer disposed on at least a portion of the inner surface of the lamp envelope. The phosphor coating layer comprises a phosphor composition comprising a colloidal alumina, particles comprising at least one rare earth compound, and phosphor particles, and the particles comprising at least one rare earth compound are present in the phosphor composition in an amount from about 0.5 percent to about 5 percent of the weight of the phosphor particles. The presence of colloidal alumina, the rare earth compound, and these selected phosphors may contribute to an increase at least one of lumen output or lumen maintenance for the lamp, as compared with the same mercury vapor discharge lamp comprising the same phosphor composition without colloidal alumina and without the particles comprising at least one rare earth compound.

  • Patent number: 8358070
Abstract: A lamp includes a discharge vessel. Tungsten electrodes extend into the discharge vessel. An ionizable fill is sealed within the vessel. The fill includes a buffer gas and a halide component that includes a rare earth halide. A source of oxygen which includes a lanthanide oxide is present in the discharge vessel. The source of oxygen provides oxygen for a regenerative cycle which reduces blackening of the lamp walls by tungsten from the electrodes.

  • Patent number: 8089212
Abstract: An electrode assembly for a discharge lamp, particularly a ceramic metal halide (CMH) lamp, having a ceramic body defining a discharge chamber and at least one leg having an opening therethrough. An electrode assembly is received at least in part in the body, preferably including a niobium mandrel, a molybdenum mandrel, and a molybdenum overwind received over the mandrel. A tungsten portion is then joined to the molybdenum composite. Adjacent turns of the overwind are spaced by a gap to facilitate receipt of an associated seal material on the overwind and the molybdenum mandrel. The gap is approximately 10% to 50% of the dimension between adjacent turns of the overwind relative to a diameter of the overwind.

  • Publication number: 20080065257
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a robotic machining process that gives a controlled removal rate of material from a workpiece when an object, tool or workpiece, held by a robot is brought into contact with a stationary object, workpiece or tool. A signal indicative of the force applied by the held object t the stationary object is used to control the rate at which the robot moves the held object in relation to the stationary object. Associated with the robot is a controller that has tunable proportional and integral gains. The controller determines a command for the feed rate of the tool when the tool engages the workpiece. In response to that command, the proportional and integral gains are tuned to obtain a cutting force to be applied to the workpiece when the tool engages the workpiece that is substantially the same as a desired cutting force.

  • Publication number: 20070168083
Abstract: Burner combustion of a fossil fuel fired boiler is optimized by using information about the combustion of each burner in the one or more groups of burners in the boiler. Controlled changes to certain combustion related manipulate variables selected for each burner are used with the combustion index for that burner to tune the combustion of each of the burners in each of the groups of burners to give a balanced combustion. Global objectives such as minimizing global NOx and CO emissions can also be achieved.
