  • Patent number: 8923898
Abstract: Maintaining communication of a wireless device and using a plurality of wireless communication technologies. A first paging message schedule may be determined for maintaining communication between the wireless device and a first base station associated with a first wireless communication technology. Similarly, a second paging message schedule may be determined for maintaining communication between the wireless device and a second base station associated with a second wireless technology. Additionally, a scheduling conflict may be determined between the first paging message schedule and the second paging message schedule. Accordingly, communication with the first base station may be switched to a third base station using the first wireless technology in response to determining that there is a scheduling conflict.

  • Patent number: 8842535
Abstract: A method and apparatus for radio link control during network congestion in a mobile wireless communication device connected to a radio network subsystem in a wireless cellular network. The mobile wireless communication device detects a pending uplink control message. The mobile wireless communication device determines that an uplink channel on which the pending uplink control message is to be sent has insufficient bandwidth for uplink transmission. After waiting a congestion delay time interval, the mobile wireless communication device sends the pending uplink control message on an uplink signaling channel instead of on the uplink channel. In some embodiments, the uplink channel is associated with a radio access bearer and the uplink signaling channel is associated with a signaling radio bearer.

  • Publication number: 20140220975
Abstract: A wireless communication system is presented in which user equipment (UE) performs non-intra-frequency (NIF) cell reselection. The NIF cell reselection process can: detect, on a discontinues reception (DRX) cycle, whether a NIF for a second cell has passed a second reselection threshold; perform, on the DRX cycle, additional checks or measurements to determine whether a higher priority NIF for a third cell has passed a third reselection threshold; and continue a cell reselection process for the second cell and the third cell. The NIF cell reselection techniques can help ensure that the UE reselects to higher priority cells without expending an unnecessary amount power.

  • Publication number: 20140198699
Abstract: A connection with a network that includes a base station (BS) may be established by a user device (UE) via a wireless connection, for conducting communications using semi persistent scheduling (SPS) in a connected discontinuous reception (C-DRX) mode. The SPS transmit periodicity may be adjusted with respect to the SPS activation command and the SPS interval UL (for uplink). Data may then be transmitted during the C-DRX On-Duration periods according to the determined SPS transmit periodicity. In some embodiments, the SPS transmit periodicity is adjusted such that following a first C-DRX On-Duration period when an SPS activation command is received, SPS data transmission occurs a specified number of subframes earlier during each subsequent C-DRX On-Duration period than in the first C-DRX On-Duration period. The SPS data transmission in each subsequent C-DRX On-Duration period may take place as soon as the UE device wakes up during the On-Duration period.

  • Patent number: 8781455
Abstract: A method to control configuration change times is performed at a mobile wireless communication device when the mobile wireless communication device is connected to a wireless network. The mobile wireless device is connected in a first configuration mode. The mobile wireless communication device receives a control message from a radio network subsystem in the wireless network at a local receive time. The received control message includes a time indication for when to start a configuration mode change of the mobile wireless communication device, which the device extracts from the control message. The mobile wireless communication device reconfigures to a second configuration mode, different from the first configuration mode, based on the extracted time indication and the local receive time.

  • Patent number: 8750207
Abstract: A method and apparatus for adapting transmission to improve quality of service in a mobile wireless device that includes an application processor and a transceiver. An application service connection is established between the mobile wireless device and a remote device. The transceiver in the mobile wireless device monitors real time properties of a radio frequency access link that transports packets for the application service between the mobile wireless device and a wireless communication network. The transceiver provides local feedback to the application processor of updated values of the monitored real time properties. The application processor adjusts packet data generation and transmission in response to the updated values to manage quality of service for the application service connection.

  • Patent number: 8744518
Abstract: A single radio wireless communications device is contemplated in which the user equipment (UE) operates according to more than one radio access technology. The UE may operate preferentially according to a first radio access technology, and may switch to a different radio access technology at predetermined intervals to check for incoming calls. An error unit within the UE may provide frequency error estimates to a GPS unit during operation according to the first radio access technology based upon signals received in the first radio access technology, unless any time spent in the different radio access technology is longer that a predetermined duration. In response to the predetermined duration being met, the error unit may provide the frequency error estimation to the GPS unit based upon signals received in the different radio access technology.

  • Publication number: 20140073365
Abstract: Performing wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) device communicating with a first wireless network and a second wireless network using a single radio. The UE device may receive a page message directed to the UE device from the first wireless network. • Publication number: 20140073366
Abstract: Avoiding conflicts between radio access technologies (RATs) in a device configured to operate according to multiple RATs. The device may be operated in a discontinuous reception (DRX) mode according to each of a first RAT and a second RAT using a shared radio. It may be determined that a conflicting wakeup time is scheduled according to DRX cycles of the first and second RATs. A subscriber identity of the device may be changed in response to determining that a conflicting wakeup time is scheduled according to DRX cycles of the first and second RATs.

  • Publication number: 20140029464
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for correcting quantization errors in signal reception based on estimated network loading including solutions for preserving cellular network performance in low noise, high interference environments. In one embodiment, a data channel is amplified with respect to other signals based on network load during periods of relatively low network utilization. Dynamic modification of the data channel's power level is configured to overcome quantization errors, rather than the true noise floor (which is insignificant in low noise environments). Such solutions provide both the fidelity necessary to enable high degrees of unwanted signaling rejection, while still preserving data channel quality.

  • Publication number: 20130336211
Abstract: Methods to control reconfiguration of multiple radio access bearers in a mobile wireless device connected to a wireless network are described. The mobile wireless device is connected to the wireless network through a voice connection and a data connection simultaneously. The data connection is concurrently active with the voice connection. Transmission of one or more signaling messages for the data connection is delayed until the voice connection terminates. Representative signaling messages include messages that reconfigure a radio access bearer supporting the data connection and messages estimated to exceed a pre-determined transmission time interval.
