  • Patent number: 9195018
Abstract: Micromodule subunit cables are constructed to allow for ease of identification between optical fibers in differing groups of optical fibers. In one cable, a first group of fibers is located within a buffer tube core while a second group of fibers is located within the cable jacket, but outside of the core. The fibers in the first and second groups can accordingly use the same color coding sequence without requiring additional indicia such as stripes or binding.

  • Publication number: 20150074948
Abstract: A seed cotton dryer comprises an array of electromagnetic wave energy generators in a cotton gin, a cotton picker/stripper. An appropriate amount of energy is used to evaporate a considerable amount of moisture in the seed cotton without producing enough energy to pop the cotton seeds. Seed cotton dried by wave energy is much easier to separate the cotton seeds and lint from leaves, stems and other plant parts. The seed cotton is preferably transported through the dryer in a conduit having flat sides which reflects the wave energy more efficiently than through a round conduit. Provisions are made to prevent arcing in the transport conduit when extraneous metal pieces are inadvertently mixed with the seed cotton. In some embodiments, heated air from a diesel engine is used to dry crops as they are being harvested.

  • Patent number: 8972631
Abstract: The defined architecture allows for format-efficient data storage on bit-patterned media, while allowing for typical variations in the drive, such as reader to writer gap variations. The defined BPM architecture relaxes some timing requirements on real-time signaling from the formatter to the channel, while enabling bit-accurate alignment between data accesses and the media.

  • Patent number: 8867158
Abstract: Data format that allows for format-efficient data storage, particularly on bit-patterned media. The data format allows for variations in the data storage device, such as reader-to-writer gap variations. A medium can also have at least a pair of a synchronization field and a quiet field with a length greater than a length of the synchronization field. These can be implemented in a bit patterned media system.

  • Patent number: 8861117
Abstract: A data format that allows for format-efficient data storage, particularly on bit-patterned media. The data format uses an intersector gap that is dimensioned relative to a physical dimension of a transducer. Further described is a data storage medium comprising transducer overhead, such as an intersector gap, interleaved with fragment overhead. Also described is a storage medium comprising intersector gaps that each include a write splice and extra symbols.

  • Patent number: 8589926
Abstract: A method, system, and computer usable program product for adjusting processor utilization data in polling environments are provided in the illustrative embodiments. An amount of a computing resource consumed during polling performed by the polling application over a predetermined period is received at a processor in a data processing system from a polling application executing in the data processing system. The amount forms a polling amount of the computing resource. Using the polling amount of the computing resource, another amount of the computing resource consumed for performing meaningful task is determined. The other amount forms a work amount of the computing resource. Using the work amount of the computing resource, an adjusted utilization of the computing resource is computed over a utilization interval. The data of the adjusted utilization is saved.
