    Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for removing polysilicon material from a semiconductor workpiece are disclosed. A particular method includes contacting a polishing pad with a semiconductor workpiece having a surface polysilicon material. The method also includes disposing a polishing liquid between the polysilicon material and the polishing pad. The polishing liquid contains an oxidizer that does not include metal elements. The method further includes moving at least one of the semiconductor workpiece and the polishing pad relative to the other while the semiconductor workpiece contacts the polishing pad and the polishing liquid. At least some of the polysilicon material is removed while the polysilicon material contacts the oxidizer in the polishing liquid, as at least one of the semiconductor workpiece and the polishing pad moves relative to the other.

    Abstract: To afford copy protection for information, e.g. elementary streams, from a service provider while in transit between a point of deployment (POD) module and a set-top box, the information is accompanied by control information pairs. The pairs are respectively associated with the portions of the copy protected information and are incorporated into a shared key calculation in the POD module and set-top box. The shared keys are used by the POD module and set-top box to encrypt and decrypt the information. Tampering with a control information pair, as by an intruder or hacker, prevents keys shared by the set-top box and POD module from matching. A mismatch prevents the set-top box from correctly decrypting information received from the deployment module.

    Abstract: A system for decrypting transmissions encrypted by a transmission station includes a receiver having a first conditional access module embedded within the receiver, and a second conditional access module that is removable from the receiver. The first conditional access module decrypts a first signal transmitted by the transmission station and the second conditional access module decrypts a second signal transmitted by the transmission station. The first and second signals are encrypted by separate conditional access modules. The transmission station provides the receiver with an entitlement code for allowing the receiver to decrypt the transmission upon verification by the transmission station that the receiver is entitled to decrypt the transmission.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for inspecting a connecting surface of a flip chip to solve problems that the grinding, polishing and chemical etching method is used for making a sample. The present invention utilizes ion beam etching technology for making and processing a sample of the flip chip (FC). The ion beam etching technology includes two modes: keeping the energy of ion beam and increasing the etching time; and keeping the etching time and increasing the ion beam energy. The ion beam etching technology can remove a deforming portion between the solder ball and the metal pad, which is connected thereto because of the grinding and polishing. Specially, it is easy to analyse a sample of a scanning electron microscope (SEM) which includes an intermetallic compound formed between the solder ball and the metal pad connected thereto.
