The fuser roller includes a tubular fusing portion, an inner tube, and a heating portion. The inner tube is inserted into the fusing portion. The heating portion is installed to enclose an outer surface of the inner tube and press against an inner surface of the fusing portion, and to radiate heat. The fusing portion is surface treated to have a roughness factor of Ra 3-5?m.

Abstract: An image fixing unit for use in an image forming apparatus for fixing a toner image on a printable medium is provided. The image fixing unit includes a heat roller in which a heater is mounted, a circulating belt tightly engaged with the heat roller and forming a nip through which a printable medium passes, a plurality of guide rollers supporting the circulating belt for rotation of the circulating belt, and bushings formed on both ends of each guide roller and having a regulating portion for preventing the circulating belt from meandering. Protrusions are formed on a surface of the bushings contacting the circulating belt to reduce a contact area between the circulating belt and the bushings. Therefore, the contact area between the traveling circulating belt and the bushings, which are fixed components of the guide rollers, is reduced and wear and tear of the circulating belt and a drive torque for driving the image fixing unit are also thus reduced.

A fixing belt runs along a caterpillar track, and winds around the pressing roller and the pressing member. The pressing member includes a protrusion part for pressing the paper passed through the second fixing nip by greater pressure at a nip outlet than at the second fixing nip. Accordingly, as the width of the fixing nip is increased, the staying time at the fixing nip increases, thereby improving printing quality according to performance of high-speed printing. Additionally, wrap jams of the paper may be substantially prevented from occurring at the nip outlet.

The heating layer has a coil winding structure such that first portions ‘A’ formed adjacent to bearings for rotatably supporting the heat roller pipe have a lower thermal temperature than that of second portions ‘B’ formed adjacent to the first portions A. The first portions A serve as a heat absorber to minimize the fusing heat loss at the beginning of a fusing process, and even if the fusing process continues for a long time, the heat absorber can prevent the opposite ends of the heating roller, where the bearings are disposed, from overheating. Accordingly, a more accurate pickup operation is achieved and a stable quality of image can be guaranteed.
