  • Patent number: 6633847
Abstract: A voice-activated circuit such as a VOX circuit (100) includes a quadratic detector (108). Quadratic detector (108) uses a sum of weighted instantaneous autocorrelation with multiple lags and where the instantaneous autocorrelation is the product of the signal or a time-advanced version of the signal multiplied by a time delayed version of itself. In one embodiment of the invention a quantized delayed signal is used where changing the sign of the signal without using real multiplication forms the quantized delayed signal. By avoiding the use of multipliers, the complexity and therefore the cost of the VOX circuit (100) is significantly reduced.

  • Publication number: 20030184953
Abstract: An interleaving striped capacitor substrate structure for pressing-type print circuit boards are disclosed. To achieve the high-frequency, high-speed, and high-density trend in modern electronic systems, the interleaving striped capacitor substrate structure uses several dielectric materials of different dielectric coefficients to make a dielectric layer. According to the practical needs, one or both sides of the dielectric layer is adhered with a conductive metal layer to form a capacitor substrate so that a single capacitor substrate can provide the lower dielectric coefficient substrate required for high-speed signal transmissions and the high dielectric coefficient substrate required by the decoupling capacitor to suppress the high-frequency noise signals. This simultaneously achieves the effects of lowering the high-frequency transmission time and suppressing high-frequency noises.

  • Publication number: 20030184907
Abstract: A method of overcoming stiction, at a head-to-disc interface, within a disc drive. The method comprises the operations of powering on the disc drive and initiating a motor spin-up routine. The motor spin-up routine involves a breakaway part, during which a spindle motor, carrying a disc in the disc drive, is driven with a spindle motor current at a first level sufficient to generate a motor torque greater than half of a maximum stiction force for a first time period in order to break stiction, and then driving the spindle motor with the spindle motor current at a second level, less than the first level after the first time period to rotate the disc. The breakaway part of the spin-up routine is followed by an acceleration part and then a normal disc rotation part during which nominal speed is maintained.

  • Publication number: 20030184256
Abstract: A hybrid power system (10) for supplying power to a load (12) such as an electric vehicle is provided. The power system (10) includes an energy storage device (14) and a fuel cell system (16). When the state of charge of the energy storage device (14) is greater than or equal to a predetermined state of charge, the energy storage device (14) supplies all of the power to the load (12). When the state of charge of the energy storage device (14) falls below the predetermined state of charge, the fuel cell system (16) supplies at least a portion of the power to the load (12). In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the fuel cell system (16) then supplies all of the power to the load (12) as long as the power requirement of the load (12) does not exceed an optimal power output of the fuel cell system (16).
