  • Patent number: 6602080
Abstract: An apparatus for retaining a gold plated battery on a circuit board comprises a gold plated circular cover plate having a circumference, a plurality of support legs extending axially from the circumference of the gold plated circular cover plate, a plurality of prongs extending from each support leg wherein each prong is adapted to fit in respective prong holes on the circuit board, and a gold plated electrical conductor with at least first and second contacts, the first contact adapted for connection to the gold plated battery, and the second contact adapted for connection to an electrical circuit. The support legs extending from the circumference of the circular cover plate are rigid which insures alignment when inserted in to a circuit board. Accordingly, the apparatus is well suited for surface mount technology. The gold plated electrical contacts provide maximum conductivity to the electrical circuit.

  • Publication number: 20030144430
Abstract: A resin composition for circuit boards. The resin composition comprises (i)1˜15 st % of bismaleimide modified by barbituric acid (BTA) and its derivatives; and (ii) 20˜50 wt % of polyphenylene ether (PPE) chain-broken in a phenol resin; wherein the phenol resin is terpene phenol resin or dicyclopentadiene phenol resin. Other additives, such as curing agent, catalyst or inorganic particle additive can be added as well, based on requirements. According to the invention, terpene novolac resin and initiator (peroxide) are added in polyphenylene ether so that molecules are rearranged to form a PPE resin having lower molecular weight and higher crosslinking density. Furthermore, BMI/epoxy resin/PPE are combined in different weight percentages. Semi-interpenetrating polymer network structures are thus formed. Consequently, Tg and resistances both to heat and solvent of the resin are increased.

  • Publication number: 20030144994
Abstract: The described subject matter provides systems and procedures to make query similarity determinations, wherein the queries are used in information retrieval operations. A same document and/or multiple similar documents are identified that have been selected by a user in response to multiple queries. Responsive to identifying the same document and/or the similar documents, a query cluster is generated that indicates that the queries used to obtain the same and/or similar documents. This is accomplished in a manner that is independent of whether individual ones of the queries are compositionally similar with respect to other ones of the queries.

  • Publication number: 20030137773
Abstract: A disc storage system includes a rotating disc and a transducer. The transducer is carried on a slider which is supported by an armature. The armature is used to move the slider radially across the disc surface whereby information may be read from or written to the disc surface of the transducer. The slider includes an air bearing surface which faces the disc surface. As the disc rotates, the air bearing surface causes the slider to “fly” over the disc surface. Pads are provided on the air bearing surface to improve operational characteristics of the system. For example, the pads may be used to reduce the stiction or improve flying characteristics. Flying instabilities associated with the pads are addressed by a number of characteristics provided to the air bearing surface.

Abstract: A catalyst composition for preparing olefin polymers. The catalyst composition includes a metallocene compound and an activating cocatalyst. In the metallocene compound, two cyclopentadienyl groups are bridged by X (carbon, silicon, germanium or tin) in a ring structure. The bite angle &thgr; formed by the two cyclopentadienyl rings and X is equal to or greater than 100 degrees. The obtained olefin polymer has high cycloolefin conversion and a high glass transition temperature. In addition, the catalyst composition can still maintain relatively high activity at high temperature reaction conditions.

  • Patent number: 6596341
Abstract: Magnetic recording media exhibiting high SNR and high thermal stability are produced by sputter depositing a magnetic alloy overlying a non-magnetic substrate, e.g., on an underlayer, heating to eliminate thermally unstable small grains thereby increasing the average grain size of the magnetic alloy layer but narrowing the grain size distribution, depositing a layer comprising a non-ferromagnetic element, and then heating to diffuse the non-ferromagnetic element into the grain boundaries of the heat treated magnetic alloy layer. Embodiments include sputter depositing a magnetic alloy layer comprising Co and Pt on an underlayer, heating at a temperature of about 150° C. to about 600° C. to increase the average grain size to about 8 to about 10 nm, depositing a layer comprising Cr, Mn or Ta, at a thickness up to about 25 Å, e.g., up to about 10 Å, on the magnetic alloy layer and heating to diffuse the Cr, Mn or Ta into the grain boundaries of the magnetic alloy layer.

  • Patent number: 6596143
Abstract: A device acts as a particle switch to transport and/or re-direct microparticles which are in a fluid suspension. The switch comprises at least three structural branches and the branches may be connected at a common junction. Particles can be transported along the branches as a result of the forces generated along that branch. Particles are transported into or out of the particle switch via the ends of the branches. Particles can be switched from one branch into one of the other branches. Depending on the properties of the particles, the transportation mechanism may be traveling-wave-dielectrophoresis or traveling-wave-electrophoresis.
