  • Patent number: 4067825
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for preparation of cationactive and amphoteric ion-exchangers from non-ionogenic crosslinked copolymers containing hydroxyl groups by their reaction with mineral acids, addition products of sulfur trioxide, sulfuric acid or chlorosulfuric acid with alcohols or pyridine, unsaturated compounds, as acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile or sodium vinylsulfonate in a strongly alkaline medium, or with halogenoalkylammonium compounds. The starting copolymer containing hydroxyl groups is prepared by the suspension copolymerization of monomers, selected from the group which comprises hydroxyalkyl methacrylates and acrylates and oligoglycol acrylates and methacrylates, with crosslinking divinyl monomers, e.g. divinylbenzene, ethylene dimethacrylate, butylenediol dimethacrylate or diacrylate, and advantageously has the macroporous structure.

  • Patent number: 4031037
Abstract: Organic three-dimensional polymeric gel-like materials containing covalently bonded phosphoric acid or a derivative thereof and a method for their manufacture. The bonding is accomplished by the reaction of the free hydroxy or epoxide groups in the homogeneous or macroporous gel-like matrix with the H.sub.3 PO.sub.4, P.sub.2 O.sub.5, phosphorus pentahalide and oxyhalide. The halide containing groups may then be hydrolyzed to form acid groups which then may be modified to form complex compounds by reaction with Lewis acids. The gel material may serve as a strongly acidic cation exchanger, catalyst or polymer reagent.

  • Patent number: 3997482
Abstract: There is disclosed a carrier for biologically active compounds comprising a hydrophilic polymeric macroporous gel including a copolymer of a hydroxy alkyl ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid and a member selected from the group consisting of a cross-linking acrylate or methacrylate derived from the corresponding acid and a bi- or trifunctional alcohol and bismethacrylamide, bisacrylamide and divinylbenzene, the hydroxy alkyl ester further containing the reaction product thereof with BrCN.

  • Patent number: 3991018
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for preparation of hydrophilic cation exchangers by a chemical modification of crosslinked copolymeric gels containing reactive hydroxyl groups and based on hydroxyalkyl, oligoglycol or polyglycol acrylates and methacrylates and hydroxyalkylacrylamides or hydroxyalkylmethacrylamides. The modification is carried out in reactions of hydroxyl groups with halogenalkane acids and their derivatives, anhydrides and halides of dicarboxylic acids or carbodiimides. If the modification agent contains several reactive groups, the remaining functional groups after modification may be allowed to react with dicarboxylic, polycarboxylic, hydroxycarboxylic or aminocarboxylic acids, or phosphoric or sulfuric acid, halogenoepoxides, diepoxides or polyepoxides. The hydroxyl groups can be also modified by oxidation to carboxylic groups by common oxidants.

  • Patent number: 3983001
Abstract: A method for the isolation of biologically active compounds by affinity chromatography comprising forming a sorption complex between a solvent soluble biologically active compound to be isolated and biologically active compound linked to a solid carrier by a covalent bond, said solid carrier being a hydrophillic macroporous copolymer.

  • Patent number: 3974111
Abstract: Polymeric alkoxides based on hydroxyalkyl methacrylates consist of units ##EQU1## where X is the organic bivalent group with the straight or branched C.sub.2 --C.sub.20 chain and M is Li, Na or K. The polymer has advantageously a heterogeneous structure of a macroporous gel with the inner surface 0.5 - 500 m.sup.2 /g. Polymeric alkoxides are prepared by treatment of a homopolymer or copolymer containing hydroxyl groups with the necessary amount of an alkali metal organic compound dissolved in an aprotic solvent, to convert the hydroxyl groups. Alkyl, aralkyl or aryl C.sub.1 to C.sub.30 derivatives of Li, Na or K are used as the alkali metal organic compounds.

  • Patent number: 3969436
Abstract: There is disclosed a method for the production of carriers for biologically active compounds comprising forming a bond by admixing (a) a three dimensional water insoluble diazotizable polymer operative to function as a primary carrier and (b) a water soluble linear polymer having ligands operative to bind said biologically active compounds and operative to function as a secondary carrier, whereby the union of (a) and (b) is operative to serve as a carrier for biologically active compounds and carriers produced in accordance therewith.
