  • Patent number: 6339114
Abstract: Liquid crystalline (meth)acrylates of the invention include at least three rigid rod-like moieties. One of these moieties is comprised between the (meth)acrylate rests and further two moieties are bonded as side chains. The liquid crystalline (meth)acrylates polymerizable using redox initiators and/or photo initiators. The (meth)acrylates of the invention polymerize quantitative and with very low volume shrinkage of less than 2.5 percent.

  • Patent number: 5998499
Abstract: A liquid crystalline compound, a polymeric product formed by polymerization of the liquid crystalline compound, a dental composition including the liquid crystalline compound and method of using the dental composition. Polymerization of the liquid crystalline compound results in an low volume percent shrinkage and a high conversion to polymer. The composition of the invention is useful for dental adhesive, primer, cement, pit and fissure sealant and restorative.

  • Patent number: 5876210
Abstract: The invention concerns a process for preparing a polymer composition, that is free-radical/photochemical and thermal curing epoxide-methacrylate and/or isocyanate-methacrylate adhesives in broadest terms, dental/medical adhesives, and dental restoratives. Furthermore the dual curing epoxide-methacrylate and/or isocyanate-methacrylate adhesives can be used in the optical industry, in optoelectronics and microelectronics, for example for the adhesion of complicated optical components in the combination glass/glass, glass/metal. Advantageous is the small shrinkage during polymerization and the good mechanical properties in combination with the possibility of step-wise or one-step polymerization.

  • Patent number: 5760142
Abstract: Epoxide-amine dendrimers synthesized by a repetitive and step-wise addition reaction of epoxides comprising functional moieties which are available for conversion into amino groups followed by a reaction of these groups to primary amino moieties. The amino terminated dendrimers are reacted with (2,3-epoxypropoxy) methacrylate, a monoepoxide and/or a monoisocyante. The methacrylate terminated dendrimers are polymerizable using redox initiators and/or photoinitiators. The resulting dendrimers show a very low volume shrinkage from that of the starting materials, on the order of less than about 5 percent by volume.

  • Patent number: 5688883
Abstract: The invention provides a polymerizable composition formed by mixing a liquid and a powder composition. The liquid composition includes a peroxide, which decomposes by at most fifty percent by weight of the peroxide within 10 hours at a temperature of at least 75.degree. C., and a polymerizable monomer. The powder composition comprising a proton donor, and a metal containing compound. The polymerizable composition has from 0.2 to 5 percent by weight of the peroxide, from 5 to 99 percent by weight of the polymerizable monomer, and from 0.1 to 3 percent by weight of the proton donor, and from 0.02 to 3 percent by weight of the metal containing compound. The polymerizable composition has an initial setting time and a storage setting time after storage of the first (liquid) composition for at least 12 months at a temperature of at least 23.degree. C. The initial setting time is within 2 minutes of the storage setting time.

  • Patent number: 5624976
Abstract: A root canal sealing dental filling composition, includes liquid polymerizable organic monomers and filler. The polymerizable organic monomers include an diepoxide monomer and a primary monoamine and/or a disecondary amine monomer. The filler includes 40 to 85 percent by weight of the composition and provides a radiopacity of at least 3 mm/mm Al.
