Abstract: Processes and compositions are described for the use in tobacco, perfume and perfumed article aroma augmenting, enhancing and imparting compositions and as tobacco, perfume and perfumed article aroma augmenting, enhancing or imparting materials of 2-butyl-3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1,4-dione having the formula: ##STR1## produced by reacting a ketal of 3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1,4-dione such as 2,7,9,9-tetramethyl-1,4-dioxaspiro[4,5]dec-6-en-8-one with n-butyltriphenylphosphorane and then deketalizing the resulting product to form the 2-butyl-3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1,4-dione. Addition of 2-butyl-3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1,4-dione to consumable materials is indicated to produce:(A) In perfumes, colognes and perfumed articles, deep, slightly woody, herbaceous aromas; and(B) In tobaccos and tobacco flavors, pungent, sweet, hay-, tea-, tobacco-like, floral and fruity notes, both prior to and on smoking in both the main stream and the side stream.

Abstract: Processes and compositions are described for the use in perfume and perfumed article aroma augmenting, enhancing and imparting compositions and as perfume and perfumed article aroma imparting materials of hydroxy cyclohexenone derivatives having the generic formula: ##STR1## wherein one of X and Y is a keto moiety having the structure: ##STR2## and the other of X and Y is a carbinol moiety having the structure: ##STR3## wherein R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl. Addition of one or more hydroxy cyclohexenone derivatives having the formula: ##STR4## to consumable materials is indicated to produce: In perfumes, colognes and perfumed articles, green, minty, herbaceous, strong fruity aromas with earthy, mossy notes.

Abstract: Processes and compositions are described for the use in tobacco flavor and aroma and perfume aroma augmenting, modifying, enhancing and imparting compositions and as tobacco, perfume and perfumed article aroma imparting and augmenting materials of one or more substituted dimethyl dihydroxy benzene and/or cyclohexadiene compounds, represented either by the equilibrium mixture: ##STR1## (and other tautomers) or by one of the compounds which is a constituent of said equilibrium mixture, wherein the dashed line represents a carbon-carbon single bond or a carbon-carbon double bond and R.sub.1 is either acetyl having the structure: ##STR2## or nitrile having the structure: ##STR3## with the proviso that when the dashed line is a carbon-carbon single bond, R.sub.1 is only nitrile and when the dashed line is a carbon-carbon double bond, R.sub.1 is either nitrile or acetyl.

Abstract: Processes and compositions are described for the use in foodstuff, chewing gum, toothpaste and medicinal product flavor and aroma and tobacco flavor and aroma augmenting, modifying, enhancing and imparting compositions and as foodstuff, chewing gum, toothpaste, medicinal product and tobacco aroma and flavor imparting, augmenting, modifying and enhancing materials of one or more 5-acyl-2-(furfurylthio)dihydro-2,5-dialkyl-3-[2H]furanones having the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 ', R.sub.2 ', R.sub.3 ' and R.sub.4 ' are each the same or different and each represents hydrogen or methyl.

Abstract: Described is a tobacco product having added thereto an amount sufficient to augment or enhance the flavor or aroma of the tobacco product particularly on smoking, of one or more sulfide compounds having the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein, when A is: ##STR2## B is: ##STR3## AND WHEN A is: ##STR4## B is: ##STR5## processes for producing such tobacco products and flavor formulations for use in conjunction with tobacco products containing one or more of such sulfide compounds.

Abstract: Processes and compositions for altering the flavor and/or aroma of consumable products including foods, tobacco and perfumes utilizing as the essential ingredient the novel organic tricyclic alcohol having the formula: ##SPC1##And a process for preparing the above-mentioned compounds involving first intimately admixing a tetramethyl cyclohexadienone having the structure: ##SPC2##With 3-butenyl lithium having the structure: ##SPC3##Thereby forming a triene compound having the structure: ##SPC4##And then heating the triene compound at an elevated temperature and pressure thereby producing a metallo tricyclic compound having the structure: ##SPC5##Which is then hydrolyzed to form the tricyclic alcohol of this invention having the structure: ##SPC6##
