Abstract: Described is a process for augmenting or enhancing the aroma of a detergent comprising the step of intimately admixing with a solid or liquid detergent base from 0.01% up to 0.5% by weight of said detergent of an oxabicyclooctane derivative having the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.2 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.5 alkyl or alkenyl; R.sub.4 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl; R.sub.7 is hydrogen or methyl; and R.sub.8 is hydrogen or methyl with the proviso that when R.sub.4 is methyl or ethyl, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 are not both hydrogen and that at least one of R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 is methyl.

Abstract: Described are derivatives of 2-oxabicyclo[2.2.2]octanes and precursors therefor, cyclohexenemethanols as well as organometallic salts of said cyclohexenemethanols. The oxabicyclooctanes are useful in perfumery and foodstuff and medicinal product flavors. The cyclohexenemethanols and their oganometallic salts are useful as precursors for the oxabicyclooctanes.

Addition of such mixtures to foodstuffs, foodstuff flavorings, chewing gums, toothpastes and medicinal products produces therein sweet, dark chocolate and cocoa powder-like aroma characteristics with dark chocolate, cocoa powder-like, and spicey flavor characteristics and bitter chocolate aftertastes.

Abstract: Described is a process for preparing cyclohexadiene derivatives having the generic formula: ##STR1## by means of reacting a compound having the structure: ##STR2## with mineral acid selected from the group consisting of dilute hydrochloric acid, dilute phosphoric acid and dilute sulfuric acid; wherein R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl. The products produced by this process are useful for their organoleptic properties in perfumes, foodstuffs and tobaccos.

Abstract: Described is a process for augmenting or enhancing the aroma or taste of a smoking tobacco comprising the step of intimately admixing an organoleptic property modifying quantity of a substituted dimethyl dihydroxy benzene or cyclohexadiene represented by the equilibrium mixture of a constituent thereof: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of acetyl having the structure: ##STR2## and nitrile having the structure:--C.tbd.N]and wherein the dashed line represents a carbon-carbon single bond or a carbon-carbon double bond with the proviso that when the dashed line represents a carbon-carbon single bond R.sub.1 is only nitrile with a material selected from the group consisting of tobacco and at least one other tobacco flavoring adjuvant; and smoking articles containing said smoking tobacco.
