  • Patent number: 9290144
Abstract: A sensor based vehicle flotation device is suitable for floating a vehicle immersed in sufficient water to activate a protected water sensor and, if desired, to confirm through auxiliary sensors whether a hazardous condition is presented. When such a device detects and verifies that the vehicle is becoming immersed in water, one or more expansible chambers, affording sufficient buoyancy to allow the vehicle to float, automatically and rapidly inflate by means of compressed, pumped or pressurized gas. Upon the successful deployment of the expansible chamber, the land vehicle will begin to float, limiting water damage to the vehicle and/or bodily harm to its occupants, and reducing the risk of the vehicle overturning. The expansible chamber will remain inflated until the land vehicle is returned to safety, and the device is detached from the land vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20160038172
Abstract: A system for tissue dissection and retraction is disclosed herein. A tissue dissection assembly generally comprises an elongate body shaft, an actuation member movable relative to the elongate body shaft, and at least one dissector arm member having at least a first end attached to the elongate body shaft, wherein the at least one dissector arm member is adapted to reconfigure within a plane from a low profile to an expanded profile when urged via the actuation member, and wherein the at least one dissector arm is further adapted to dissect tissue within the plane. In use, the assembly dissects tissue within the plane typically by advancing the elongate body shaft into the tissue region where the dissector arm member or members are then reconfigured within the plane from its low profile to its expanded profile to thereby dissect the tissue region along the plane.

  • Publication number: 20150254873
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and computer readable media are provided for image compression. Edge elements of an image comprising pixels are established by analysing pixel values associated with the pixels of the image. The edge elements are organised in an edge data structure having at least two dimensions. The edge data structure is compacted along a first dimension by arranging the established edge elements adjacent to each other along the first dimension in a compacted edge data structure. Compressed edges in a second dimension in the compacted edge data structure are determined by: determining edge elements to be joined along a second dimension in the compacted edge data structure based on pixel values of neighbouring edge elements, along the second dimension, in the compacted edge data structure; and compressing the image by encoding formed edges, the edges being formed by joining the determined edge elements.

  • Patent number: 8888012
Abstract: An electrical insulator for use with a rail fastening clip comprises a contact member providing on one side a substantially flat rail contact surface for contacting a foot of a rail and on the opposing side a clip contact surface for contacting a rail bearing surface of a bearing portion of the clip, the insulator also having retaining means for retaining the insulator on the clip in such a way as to allow rotation of the insulator about a longitudinal axis of the bearing portion of the clip. The insulator has stop portions for limiting such rotation about the longitudinal axis of the bearing portion of the clip to a desired extent. The clip contact surface of the insulator is convex, in a vertical plane which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bearing portion of the clip, such that, when the insulator is attached to a clip having a flat rail bearing surface, a contact region between the flat rail bearing surface of the clip and the clip contact surface of the insulator is linear.
