Publication number: 20070132256Abstract: The invention generally involves an apparatus and method for cleaning metal debris from a tool. The tool may have magnetic properties. The magnetic cleaner comprises a magnetic element suitably sized to interface with a surface of a tool associated with metal debris. The apparatus is preferably configured to be operated with one hand and may comprise a protective housing that surrounds a magnetic element. The housing has a magnetic interface constructed of magnetically transparent material with the remainder of the housing optionally constructed from material that forms a magnetic barrier. The magnetic element may be movably associated with the housing allowing the magnetic element to be associated/disassociated with the housing magnetic interface. The apparatus may further comprise a resilient element that defines a bias force that tends to keep the magnetic element disassociated from the housing magnetic interface.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 9, 2005Publication date: June 14, 2007Inventors: Earl Parris, John Kay

Publication number: 20060251729Abstract: An osteogenic composition is prepared by a process including the steps of subjecting demineralized bone to an extraction medium to produce an insoluble extraction product and a soluble extraction product, separating the insoluble extraction product and the soluble extraction product, drying the soluble extraction product to remove all or substantially all of the moisture in the soluble extracting product, and combining the dried soluble extraction product with demineralized bone particles. Preferably, the process does not involve heating.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 26, 2006Publication date: November 9, 2006Applicant: IsoTis OrthoBiologics, Inc.Inventors: John KAY, Mark Borden, Richard Coulson, Edward King

Publication number: 20060035633Abstract: A communication system, upon receiving an instruction to transfer deferrable data, determines whether an air interface is congested and, when the air interface is congested, defers a transfer of the deferrable data or transfers the deferrable, lower priority data as higher priority data. When, during a transfer of deferrable data, the system determines that the air interface is congested, the system may terminate the call and save a state of a partially completed deferred data transfer. Subsequent to the termination of the call, the system establishes another data connection over the air interface and transfers any remaining, not yet transferred deferrable data. In order to discourage subscribers from transferring higher priority data as lower priority data, the system may further restrict a transfer of lower priority data to designated time periods while allowing a transfer of higher priority data during the designated time periods and other time periods.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2005Publication date: February 16, 2006Inventors: John Harris, Jay Jayapalan, John Kay, Sean Kelley

Publication number: 20050113762Abstract: A minimally invasive high viscosity material delivery system having a cannula associated with a dispenser for dispensing a high viscosity material out of the cannula, a body member having a first opening that is in communication with the cannula, a reservoir for receiving the high viscosity material, and a second opening associated with a transfer member for pushing the high viscosity material from the body member into the cannula via the first opening. The transfer member is in communication with the second opening. The cannula and the body member are connected in a non-linear angle. Also disclosed is a method of using such system.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 24, 2003Publication date: May 26, 2005Inventors: John Kay, Michael Sickler

Patent number: 6588352Abstract: In operation for wave avoidance the WAY presents only a small profile and a small part of its total structure to the most dynamically active part of all ocean waves, their surface and crests. This includes all storm and rogue waves. In this mode the bulk of the vessel is distributed through lower more quiescent water and spans differentiated deep wave effect. In this mode the WAY has low above surface reserve buoyancy-able-to-induce unwanted motion. In wave avoidance mode when not underway, the WAY is stabilized by low reserve buoyancy of its wave piercing causeways (12). Underway the WAY behaves as a small wing effect hydrodynamic flying body and does not rely upon wings or hydrofoils which receive undesirable acceleration forces and motion from deep wave effect. Flight path is controlled by orientation which is controlled by a large separation between center of buoyancy and a purposefully moveable center of mass.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2002Date of Patent: July 8, 2003Inventor: John Kay

Patent number: 4827248Abstract: A sensor (20) is mounted on a fixed torque box (8) carried by a fixed portion of an engine nacelle (6). A target plate (40) is resiliently mounted on a thrust reverser translating cowl (10). A cylindrical sleeve (32) is attached to the sensor (20) and surrounds its outer sensing end (22). The outer radial surface (34) of the sleeve (32) is spaced beyond the sensing end (22) a predetermined distance (100). The surface (34) contacts the target plate (40) when the cowl (10) is in its closed position. The resilient mounting of the plate (40) compensates for inaccuracies in the installation of the plate (40) and allows relative movement between the cowl (10) and the plate (40) when the cowl (10) is in its closed position to maintain a fixed gap (100) between the plate (40) and the sensor (20).Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1987Date of Patent: May 2, 1989Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Eric H. Crudden, John Kay
