  • Publication number: 20220089277
Abstract: A method of retrofitting a wing of a fixed wing aircraft is disclosed including the steps of providing an existing aircraft wing with a main fixed wing portion, and the main fixed wing portion having a tip end and an existing movable flight control surface connected adjacent the tip end. The existing movable flight control surface is then removed from the main fixed wing portion, and a wing tip device and movable flight control surface are selected as a pair to replace the existing movable flight control surface, with the selected movable flight control surface having an aerodynamic surface of different shape to the shape of the flight control surface removed from the wing. The selected wing tip device and movable flight control surface are then fitted to the main fixed wing portion.

  • Publication number: 20220084694
Abstract: An improvement in a nuclear fuel rod is disclosed. The improved fuel rod includes a cladding tube, a plurality of fuel pellets stacked within the cladding tube, and a liquid material filling the gap between the fuel pellets and the cladding tube. The liquid material is selected from those having a thermal conductivity higher than that of helium, a melting point lower than about 400° C., a boiling point higher than 1600° C., and which are capable of wetting both the fuel pellets and the cladding sufficient to form a protective layer over the pellets and to wick into openings that may form in the cladding.

  • Patent number: 11247769
Abstract: An aerodynamic structure for use on an upper surface of an aircraft wing is disclosed. The wing includes a slat operable between a stowed configuration in which the slat is stowed in a slat recess of the wing, and a deployed configuration in which the slat extends out of the slat recess. When the slat is in the deployed configuration, an end face of the slat recess is exposed, the end face intersecting with the upper surface of the wing at a recess edge. The aerodynamic structure, adjacent to the recess edge, has a volume shaped to encourage air flowing over the recess edge onto the upper surface during flight, to remain attached.

  • Publication number: 20220017206
Abstract: An aircraft with wing tip devices, for example, folding wing tips, is disclosed. The folding wing tip may have a flight configuration for use during flight, and a ground configuration for use in ground-based operations. The ground configuration creates a shorter wing span than when the aircraft is in the flight configuration. A hinge arrangement protrudes beyond an outer surface of the fixed wing and wing tip device. In order to reduce the aerodynamic effect of the protruding hinge a fairing may be provided. In the flight configuration the fairing comprises a rear portion with a concave surface, such that the fairing acts as a lift-generating surface when the aircraft is in flight.

  • Patent number: 11222429
Abstract: An object that moves, which is depicted in a video, can be identified. Radial lines emanating from the object can be rendered in an enhanced video. Responsive to detecting a first movement of the object indicating a size of the object is increasing in the video, a length of each of the radial lines can be increased. Responsive to detecting a second movement of the object indicating the size of the object is decreasing in the video, the length of each of the radial lines can be decreased. Responsive to detecting a third movement of the object, in a two-dimensional plane, the length of a first portion of the radial lines emanating from a leading surface of the object can be decreased while the length of a second portion of the radial lines emanating from a trailing surface of the object can be increased.

  • Patent number: 11188718
Abstract: A collective emotional engagement detection arrangement is provided for determining emotions of users in group conversations. A computer-implemented method includes determining a first conversation velocity of communications through conversation channels over a first time period for a group discussion between user computers; determining that a conversation velocity of the communications has increased to a second conversation velocity of communications which exceeds a predetermined threshold, and has remained above the predetermined threshold for at least a second time period; determining, aggregated emotions of the users during the second time period; and providing an output to a moderator of the group discussion indicating that the second conversation velocity of the communications has exceeded the predetermined threshold for at least the second time period, and indicating the aggregated emotions of the users during the second time period.

  • Patent number: 11176753
Abstract: User-specific augmentation of a real word field of view viewable through an augmented reality (AR) device is facilitated by a processor(s) receiving image data representative of a real world field of view viewable by a user through the AR device, and receiving sensor data indicative of the user's stress level, which is related, at least in part, to the user's real world field of view viewable through the AR device. The processor(s) processes the image data, based on the user's stress level, to identify one or more stress-inducing elements to be hidden in the real world field of view viewable through the AR device. Further, the processor(s) provides an augmented real world field of view for display to the user through the AR device, where the one or more stress-inducing elements are hidden from the user in the augmented real world field of view.

  • Patent number: 11138870
Abstract: In response to receiving a request from a user device for an on-demand crossing of a roadway at a geo-location, a method determines whether connected vehicles on the roadway are approaching the geo-location. A wait-to-cross-the-roadway message is sent to the user's device. In response to determining connected vehicles are approaching the geo-location, a direction, distance, and speed of connected vehicles relative to the geo-location are determined. Instructions are sent to the connected vehicles to reduce speed and allow the user to cross the roadway, including a message to the user device explaining a purpose of the instructions. In response to determining the one or more connected vehicles comply with the instructions, the one or more processors send a safe-to-cross message to the user, and upon detecting successful roadway crossing of the user device, instructing the connected vehicles to resume travel.

  • Publication number: 20210207991
Abstract: A method can include obtaining a first weight measurement of a receptacle and obtaining a second weight measurement of the receptacle. The method can further include calculating a first difference between the first weight measurement and the second weight measurement, resulting in a reference dispensation value. The method can further include obtaining dispensation data, the dispensation data including a measured dispensation value. The measured dispensation value can correspond to a quantity of a substance dispensed from the receptacle, the quantity of the substance passing through a dispensation monitor coupled to the receptacle. The method can further include calculating a second difference between the reference dispensation value and the measured dispensation value. The method can further include determining that the second difference exceeds a threshold and adjusting the dispensation monitor in response to determining that the second difference exceeds the threshold.

  • Patent number: 10950347
Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods for use in managing patient treatments utilizing pharmaceutical or therapeutic compounds. Methods include accessing one or more fields of information relating to any of a patient, physician and drug treatment and relating the one or more fields, or combination thereof, to a particular attribute or outcome. By analyzing the one or more fields of data in relation to the attribute or outcome, the system determines suitability of an intervention(s) and tasks the intervention(s) to one or more entities to facilitate the desired attribute or outcome. In certain aspects, the system facilitates identification of complex relationships and trends between seemingly unrelated fields of information and outputs information for use in an intervention or various other purposes according to the attribute or outcome desired by the user.
