  • Patent number: 6196411
Abstract: A variety of closures are provided for use with a drink cup or other container wherein the closures provide a compartment for receiving a digital media disk or other merchandise. Examples include various closures formed of inner and outer members connected by a hinge with the inner and outer members forming a compartment for closely receiving a digital media disk. Other examples include a closure having a single lid portion with a retaining mechanism for retaining a digital media disk to a top surface of the lid. The retaining mechanism includes, for example, elastic retaining bands or resilient tabs. In another example, the closure provides a curved compartment for receiving a booklet wherein a closure for the compartment includes snap-fit members for attaching the compartment closure to other portions of the container lid. Still other embodiments are provided for enclosing toys or the like including one embodiment wherein the closure is configured to retain both a compressible ball and a backboard.

  • Patent number: 6167737
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a forming device adapted to impart a precise arcuate curvature to a sheet metal blank. The device includes a forming drum and a compression roller in proximate space relation to the surface of the drum. A characterizing feature of the device resides in a resilient deformable metal sheet having a lead surface fixed to the drum, the metal blank to be formed being captured between the drum surface and the flexible metallic sheet. Both the blank and the sheet are caused by the compression roller to conform to the curvature of the surface of the drum.

  • Patent number: 6070752
Abstract: A closure is provided for use with a drink container wherein the closure includes an inner member, having an opening formed therein for receiving a straw and having a peripheral portion for mounting to the drink container, and an outer member configured to be fitted to the inner member forming a compartment therebetween. The outer member also has an opening, with the opening of the outer member aligned with the opening of the inner member while the outer member is fitted to the inner member. The aligned openings permit penetration of a straw therethrough. The inner member is shaped to prevent any beverage from within the drink container from entering the compartment even while a straw penetrates the aligned openings of the inner and outer members.

  • Patent number: 6059527
Abstract: A rear loading system for vehicles where a platform (16) is raised from the ground to a position level with the tray (2) of the vehicle. Typically the platform is raised by turning handle (32) which turns a shaft hidden in frame member (20) of U-shaped frame (4). The shaft in turn rotates a sprocket of an endless chain hidden in frame member (22). All four lifting cables (18a-d) run over pulleys in the U-frame and are attached to the endless chain so that on turning of the handle all of the cables are pulled by exactly the same distance and the platform rises in a horizontal attitude. When level with U-frame (4) the platform (16) can be locked thereto and frame and platform can be pivoted to a vertical position to act as a tail gate.

  • Patent number: 5927173
Abstract: A dispenser apparatus for holding, dispensing, and severing lengths of flexible duct connector material from side-by-side coils thereof includes a guide station and a cut-off station shiftable laterally of the apparatus and into alignment with a selected one of the coils. The coils are supported on an anti-friction cradle which includes anti-friction rollers extending laterally of the device, the ends of the rollers being supported on chains hung in catenary fashion. Since the rollers are capable of moving toward and away from each other, they are free to define a cradle which conforms to the periphery of the specific coil which is being fed to assure that the connector material may be withdrawn for processing with the lowest possible force.

  • Patent number: 5842919
Abstract: An actuator assembly for a multi-blade damper includes a base plate having slots extending longitudinally thereof and slidably receiving drive portions of the louver shafts. A series of drive slots extending generally perpendicular to the clearance slots is formed at each side of the clearance slots. A series of link assemblies are keyed to the shafts, the link assemblies including actuator pins extending into selected ones of the drive slots. A clamp connection interposed between the link and drive portion of the louvers permits relative adjustment of the link relative to the louver. Movement of the base plate parallel to the plane defined by the axes of the louvers results in tilting of the louvers in a selected direction, dependent upon which of the series of drive slots is occupied by a pin of a respective link.

  • Patent number: 5644819
Abstract: A banding device is formed of two metallic components, namely, a clamp component and a strap component. The clamp and strap components are slidably assemblable into interlocked engagement. The strap includes regularly longitudinally spaced locking components, the locking components including teeth deflected from the plane of the strap and locking shoulders in the plane of the strap. The strap is applied by advancing the free end through a passage formed in the clamp, a pawl of the clamp being resiliently biased into the passage. The teeth and pawl co-act to permit movement of the strap through the clamp in a first direction, the pawl biasing the stop shoulders into the path of a barb extending into the passage to block reverse movement of the strap. The pawl is manually accessible, enabling the spacing between the pawl and barb to be increased to thereby release the strap permitting retraction of the strap from the clamp.

  • Patent number: 5593038
Abstract: A method of packing garments for transportation or storage in which each garment is enclosed unfolded inside its own garment cover, the garment cover commensurate in size with the garment and the garment cover formed from a low-friction fabric material. The garment covers are packed adjacent one another in luggage, thereby reducing friction between the garments so that fewer wrinkles in the garments occur when they are transported or stored.

  • Patent number: 5535925
Abstract: A caulk dispenser device for use with conventional caulking cartridges and powered by expanding refrigerant liquid is disclosed. Expanding gases are released into a chamber defined in part by a housing and in part by the caulk cartridge, the plug or piston within the cartridge forming a boundary of the chamber. Discharge of the gas directly against the piston is avoided by the interposition of a deflector surface within the housing reducing the tendency of the caulk to increase in viscosity and bond to the walls of the cartridge or to tilt relative to the cartridge. The propellant liquid-gas material incorporates an increment (e.g. 5%) of perflurocarbon or like compound liquid at ambient temperatures which minimizes the cooling effect resulting from discharge of the gas. Preferably, the device is fabricated of material having a low thermal conductivity such as polymeric material to thereby reduce the cooling effect on the canister of propellant with resultant loss of pressure.

  • Patent number: 5273164
Abstract: This invention provides a soil conditioning apparatus having a shaker screen assembly that is mounted for operation on the dump bed of wheeled load-carrying vehicles. The shaker screen assembly may be adapted to operate either electrically or hydraulically using available systems on the vehicle and to operate with multiple soil conditioning screens to provide multiple stages of soil conditioning. The conditioned soil materials are deposited directly into the vehicle bed for transport to and dump-delivery at the site or location where it is needed, and this, without having to remove the apparatus from the transporting vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5067278
Abstract: A readily demountable door assembly for sealing an aperture in a duct comprises a door member having an inwardly directed ramp or cam which lies within the duct and is inclined outwardly toward the duct surface. A clamp is adapted to be mounted adjacent the aperture of the duct at a position diametrically opposite the ramp. The clamp engages the door and shifts the same in the direction of the ramp, which movement presses the flange of the door tightly against the duct surface, the clamp including portions which overlie the door at positions remote from the ramp to urge such remotely disposed portions of the door against the duct surface.
