  • Patent number: 4009182
Abstract: Hydroxyoxetanes of the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R' are each selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 22, 1968
Date of Patent: February 22, 1977
    Assignee: Olin Corporation
Inventors: Alan E. Ardis, John A. Wojtowicz
  • Patent number: 4007182
Abstract: Trichloroisocyanuric acid is produced by the reaction of a symmetrical triazine compound selected from the group consisting of ammelide, chlorosubstituted ammelide, an alkali metal salt of ammelide, ammeline, chlorosubstituted ammeline, an alkali metal salt of ammeline with hypochlorous acid. The number of moles of hypochlorous acid reacted per mole of the symmetrical triazine compound is at least X + 2Y where X represents the number of hydrogen and alkali metal atoms present in the triazine compound and Y represents the number of nitrogen atoms in the triazine compound which are replaced by oxygen atoms.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 24, 1976
Date of Patent: February 8, 1977
    Assignee: Olin Corporation
    Inventor: John A. Wojtowicz
  • Patent number: 4006185
Abstract: Selected 5-substituted-2-fluoroanilines, useful in preparing dyes and herbicides, are prepared by reacting a selected 3-substituted nitrobenzene with anhydrous hydrogen fluoride and a deoxygenating agent at a temperature of 0.degree.-300.degree. C. under a pressure of 15 to 3000 p.s.i.a. Substituents in the 3 position include hydroxyl and lower alkoxyl groups.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 20, 1974
Date of Patent: February 1, 1977
    Assignee: Olin Corporation
Inventors: John H. Tobin, John A. Wojtowicz
  • Patent number: 3988336
Abstract: Dihaloisocyanuric acid salts are produced in a process reacting a solid monometal cyanurate selected from the group consisting of a monoalkali metal cyanurate or a monoalkaline earth metal dicyanurate with a gaseous mixture of a dihalogen monoxide and an inert gas. The gaseous mixture is comprised of from about 1 to about 30 percent by volume of the dihalogen monoxide.Alkali metal and alkaline earth metal dihaloisocyanurates and their hydrates are produced in the absence of a solvent as dry, free-flowing products.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 30, 1975
Date of Patent: October 26, 1976
    Assignee: Olin Corporation
    Inventor: John A. Wojtowicz
  • Patent number: 3976756
Abstract: A method for preparing hydrazine and its compounds is described. Hypochlorous acid in a non-aqueous solvent is reacted with a carbonyl compound and with a nitrogen-contributing compound selected from the group consisting of ammonia, primary alkyl amines and mixtures of these. Hydrazine intermediates such as azines, hydrazones, and diazacyclopropanes are obtained and these may, if desired, be converted to hydrazine and its compounds, e.g., by hydrolysis.

Date of Patent: August 24, 1976
    Assignee: Olin Corporation
