  • Patent number: 8799625
Abstract: A method for fast remote communication and computation between processors is provided in the illustrative embodiments. A direct core to core communication unit (DCC) is configured to operate with a first processor, the first processor being a remote processor. A memory associated with the DCC receives a set of bytes, the set of bytes being sent from a second processor. An operation specified in the set of bytes is executed at the remote processor such that the operation is invoked without causing a software thread to execute.

  • Patent number: 8779846
Abstract: A method for improving the performance of a digital circuit is provided in the illustrative embodiments. A real frequency of operation of the digital circuit is adjusted using a control loop in the digital circuit, the adjusting the real frequency being responsive to a change in an operating condition of the digital circuit. A measurement of a current drawn by the digital circuit is received from a voltage regulator supplying electrical power to the digital circuit. An over-current target current value is received. A voltage output from the voltage regulator to the digital circuit is adjusted such that the current drawn by the digital circuit does not exceed the over-current target current value.

  • Patent number: 8750539
Abstract: Charge pump circuits having circuit components such as transistors which may be damaged by voltage transients greater than the normal operating voltage levels of the charge pump circuit, such as may be experienced during powering down. The circuit components to be protected are connected in parallel with a leakage element arranged to have a leakage current that is small enough during normal operation to allow the charge pump to operate effectively but which is large enough, during development of a voltage transient, to prevent excess voltage levels being achieved. The leakage element may have a significant leakage current at a voltage less than the breakdown voltage of the circuit component. Suitable leakage elements are poly diodes.

  • Patent number: 8694090
Abstract: An apparatus for the detection of dental caries on the surface of a remaining tooth present underneath a crown are provided. Such an inventive concept involves the utilization of a proper electrically conductive pathway from the crown exterior to the tooth itself, allowing for impedance measurements to be undertaken to determine the degree of potential demineralization within the tooth and/or adhesive loss at the tooth/crown interface, all due to decay attributable to dental caries or like problems. A measuring electrode may be applied to a specific point on the target crown as well as on the adjacent gum, to measure impedance levels for any appreciable decreases which would indicate underlying tooth decay has been initiated. From that point, the dental professional may undertake proper therapeutic measures to treat such tooth locations in order to avoid far more expensive repairs, such as the implementation of bridges or implants.

  • Publication number: 20140078237
Abstract: A scanning system for use in an imaging apparatus includes a first light source and a second light source for emitting light beams for generating an image. A driver circuitry has first and second outputs connected to the first and second light sources, respectively, for controlling the first and second light sources. A signal transmitter includes a first interface for communicating a clock signal to the driver circuitry and a second interface for communicating an image information signal to the driver circuitry. During a clock cycle of the clock signal, the driver circuitry captures a first bit information from the image information signal at a rising edge of the clock signal and a second bit information from the image information signal at a falling edge of the clock signal. Thereafter, the driver circuitry drives the first and second light sources based on the first and second bit information captured, respectively.

  • Publication number: 20140074960
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for compacting a non-biased results multiset are provided in the illustrative embodiments. A set of references and a multiset of values are identified. The multiset includes a first and a second set of values, each set including a first value. A first reference in the set of references refers to the first set of values and a second reference in the set of references refers to the second set of values. The values in the first and second set of values are re-arranged to form permuted first and second sets of values. The multiset is compacted by overlaying the permuted first and second sets of values in a portion such that the permuted first set of values and the permuted second set of values share a single instance of the first value in a portion of the compacted multiset.

  • Patent number: 8639584
Abstract: A service provider system enables a subscriber to purchase services over a network from a service provider for the benefit of third parties located in different locations. The service provider system provides service flexibility by allowing parameters to be set, such as place and time of service delivery. Further, conditions allowing third-party recipients to change service parameters include delivery time and place, exchange of purchased service for another service, return of the purchased service, etc. Reporting options to both the subscriber and the third party can additionally be provided. Reporting messages or notifications may be sent to the purchasing subscriber to indicate which of the third parties had taken advantage of the purchased service, when and where the service was consumed, and/or what the actual cost of delivering the service was. The service provider system can also provide incentives for third parties to take advantage of the purchased service.
