Patent number: 6710370Abstract: An image sensor is disclosed including passivation walls extending above the pixel contact pads into a photosensor layer (e.g., amorphous silicon) such that the pixel contact pads are isolated to reduce cross-talk. The passivation walls are formed from SiO2 or SiON to further reduce cross-talk. An embodiment includes metal structures provided under interface regions (e.g., under the passivation walls) separating adjacent pixels that are negatively biased to prevent cross-talk, and optionally extend under the contact pad to increase pixel capacitance. One embodiment omits p-type dopant from the lower amorphous silicon photodiode layer, and additional photodiode material layers are disclosed. Another disclosed sensor structure utilizes a textured surface to increase light absorption. A color filter structure for image sensors is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 2002Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Robert A. Street, James B. Boyce, John C. Knights

Patent number: 5497531Abstract: An apparatus and method for knitting sliver fabric on a circular sliver knitting machine. An air blowing unit is attached to the machine so as to be oriented radially inward from the knitting cylinder and a card unit so as to blow air radially outwardly toward the needles. The air blowing unit blows air along generally horizontal longitudinal path toward the needles so as to turn free ends of the sliver fibers once the medial portions thereof have been knit into the fabric. A modified latched guard cooperates with air blowing unit for guiding free ends of the sliver fibers onto sinkers in a uniform and controlled manner to enable the free ends sliver fibers to be knit a second time by the adjacent needles.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 1995Date of Patent: March 12, 1996Assignee: Mayer Industries, Inc.Inventors: Michael K. Kuhrau, John C. Knight, Sr

Patent number: 4592213Abstract: Apparatus for removing excess fibers from the doffer of a sliver high pile fabric knitting machine and returning the fibers to the main cylinder for refeeding to the doffer. During the return of the fibers to the main cylinder, they are combed and aligned into a thin uniform film of parallel fibers for uniform redistribution on the main cylinder and uniform mixture with fresh, incoming fibers fed to the main cylinder by the sliver feed elements. The invention includes pneumatic suction for drawing fibers from the doffer into a substantially closed suction chamber, a flat perforated filter sheet fixed within the chamber to separate the fibers from the air currents in the chamber and a rubber covered sealing roll permitting the fibers to be discharged from the chamber to the ambient atmosphere without impairing the integrity of the vacuum in the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1985Date of Patent: June 3, 1986Assignee: Mayer, Wildman Industries, Inc.Inventors: Alan L. Tilson, Earl R. Quay, John C. Knight
