  • Patent number: 6233643
Abstract: A pair of communications adapters each include a number of digital signal processors and network interface circuits for the attachment of a multi-channel telephone line. A bus connecting the communications adapters can carry data between a network line attached to one of the adapters and the digital signal processors of the other adapter. The digital signal processors on each card are connected to a host, or controller, processor. Each digital signal processor interrupts its host processor by transmitting an interrupt control block as data to a data memory of the host processor, and by subsequently sending an interrupt causing the host processor to examine the data memory. Preferably, the interrupt control block includes data representing a number of requested interrupts.

  • Patent number: 6178180
Abstract: A communications adapter card provides an interface for a TI or E1 transmission line and a signal processing circuit which can be programmed to process receive and transmit data in either an ISDN or an ATM format. Preferably, two such interfaces and two such signal processing circuits are provided on the card, so that a single adapter card can be used for attachment to both an ISDN network and to an ATM network. Each signal processing circuit includes a pair of DSPs, each of which has a two port buffer extending to a parallel bus. All such DSPs are connected to a data bus. The DSPs in each signal processing circuit execute programs to operate in either an ATM mode or an ISDN mode.

  • Patent number: 5919586
Abstract: This invention pertains to electrochemical cells, and anode cans used therein, wherein edge regions of respective anode cans are toed-in. The anode can includes a top wall, and a first side wall depending downwardly from the top wall. The first side wall has an edge region remote from the top wall. The first side wall comprises a curl at the edge region. The edge region comprises a first portion of the first outer surface on the curl. The first portion of the first outer surface is displaced from a first downward projection of the first outer surface of the first side wall as defined at a maximum perimeter element of the intermediate region. Thus, the edge region is toed-in. Generally, the first side wall follows a path from an intermediate element of the first side wall to a bottom edge of the first side wall, and a reverse curl extending from the bottom edge toward the top wall. The cathode can has a bottom wall, and a second side wall extending upwardly from the bottom wall.

  • Patent number: 5885340
Abstract: A method of producing a multiple coated cellulosic sheet product having a surface which is smooth, bright and capable of being printed upon, includes the steps of coating a substrate comprising a cellulosic sheet with a first layer of an inorganic pigment-containing aqueous coating composition, and coating the first layer with a second layer of an inorganic pigment-containing aqueous coating composition to form a product in which the first layer is bonded to the cellulosic sheet and the second layer is bonded to and inseparable from the first layer, wherein there is incorporated into the first layer a sizing agent in an amount of up to 0.6% by weight based on the dry weight of the pigment present in the first layer. The sizing agent is selected from alkene ketene dimers, alkenyl succinic anhydrides, and anionic polyurethane sizes.

  • Patent number: 5883925
Abstract: A pulse code modulation (PCM) unit is connected to a bus in a computer system. Also, connected to the bus is a processor and memory. The PCM unit is connected to transmit and receive telephone lines. The PCM unit reads uncompressed PCM data from the memory over the bus and compresses the PCM data for transmission over the telephone line in a cycle steal operation, wherein the bus is not being used by the processor. The PCM receives compressed PCM data from the receive telephone line, decompresses it, and writes the decompressed PCM data to the memory in a cycle steal operation. In addition, selectivity of either .mu.-Law or A-Law conversion, selectivity of even bit inversion for A-Law conversion, and selectivity between the compressed/decompressed PCM data or raw data is provided on a per channel basis. Selectable linear gain is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5811795
Abstract: Method and apparatus for scanning in a bow-tie pattern, where such pattern is effectuated by either directing a beam or aiming a laser. Methods are provided for correcting errors in movement of the beam. One such method includes the use of a calibration grating on a recording media, with the data derived from the calibration table being used to generate a lookup table. The lookup table providing correction factors that serve to diminish variations in the beam path.
