Abstract: Alkylated 1,1'-biphenyl-2,2'-diyl phosphiates are prepared by reacting alkylated 2,2'-biphenol with phosphorus trichloride in an organic solvent an then reacting the intermediate with an alcohol or a thiol. Said phosphites are useful as stabilizers of organic polymers and lubricating oils, especially as process stabilzers for polyolefins, polyesters and polycarbonates.

Abstract: Organic materials are stabilized against oxidative and ultraviolet light degradation by incorporating therein polyalkylthiobenzenes having the formula ##STR1## WHEREIN R is alkyl or cycloalkyl, R' is alkyl, n is 2 to 6 and x is 0 to 4, provided that n+x is not greater than 6.

Abstract: The compounds are trialkylsubstituted hydroxyphenylalkanephosphinates and phosphonates having the formula ##STR1## wherein R, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently lower alkyl or cycloalkyl groups, R.sup.3 is alkyl, alkyl substituted with one halogen atom, phenyl, phenyl substituted with alkyl groups, alkoxy, alkoxy substituted with one halogen groups, phenoxy, phenoxy substituted with alkyl groups, alkylthioethoxy, alkyloxalkylenoxy, R.sup.4 is alkyl, alkyl substituted with one halogen atom, cycloalkyl, phenyl, phenyl substituted with alkyl groups, alkylthioethyl, thiobisalkylene, alkylene, polyvalent cyclic or acyclic hydrocarbon radical, A is lower alkylene and n is 1 to 4.These compounds are usually prepared by reacting the trialkylsubstituted hydroxybenzyl or hydroxyphenylalkyl halide with the appropriate tralkyl or triaryl phosphite or appropriate substituted phosphinite.The compounds are useful as stabilizers of organic materials subject to oxidative, thermal and UV light deterioration.

Abstract: Alkylated 1,1'-biphenyl-2,2'-diyl phosphonites are prepared by reacting alkylated 2,2'-dihydroxybiphenylene with dichloroaryl or dichloroalkyl phosphine in an organic solvent. Said phosphonites are useful as stabilizers of organic polymers and lubricating oils, especially as process stabilizers for polyolefins.

Abstract: The compounds are hindered phenolic mono- and bicyclic phosphonate compounds having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is alkyl, R.sup.2 is tert-alkyl, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are independently hydrogen or alkyl, R.sup.5 is hydrogen, alkyl or phenyl, R.sup.6 is alkyl or phenyl, R.sup.7 is lower alkyl and R.sup.8 is alkyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted with a lower alkyl group.These compounds are usually prepared by reaction of a tert-alkylsubstituted hydroxybenzylphosphonate ester with a suitable 1,2 or 1,3 polyol. Alternatively the compounds can be made by reaction of an alkali metal salt of the substituted benzylphosphonic acid with an appropriate alkylene dihalide.The compounds are useful as stabilizers for organic materials subject to oxidative, thermal or photochemical degradation.

These compounds are prepared by reacting the corresponding alkylated 4-hydroxybenzyl-tert-amine with a malonate ester in the presence of an alkali metal alkoxide.

The metal salts of this invention are prepared by reacting the appropriate amino acid or its alkali metal salt with a reactive form of the metal or metal complex.
