  • Publication number: 20070127747
Abstract: The present invention provides a very lightweight conversation switch for stereo headphones that allows a user to select between listening to an audio player's source (e.g. music player, computer) and listening to a microphone. The preferred embodiment comprises a standard earphone or headphone set with an additional electronics assembly interposed between the plug and earpieces. The electronics assembly includes a microphone, amplifier, momentary switch, and a latching DPDT relay. The momentary switch functions to toggle the internal relay between the audio source and the microphone amplifier, whereupon ambient sound is picked up by the microphone assembly and is amplified and output to the earphones. The length of cable from the switch assembly to the earpieces is predetermined to allow fixation of the switch assembly at a point situated directly in front of the chest when the user is standing or sitting.

  • Publication number: 20070022967
Abstract: A system and method for measuring an animal includes a light source and an optical source. The light source, which is preferably an array of monochromatic light emitting diodes, at least partially backlights one or more of the animal's legs. The optical sensor or device, which is preferably a single dimension camera or charged-coupled device, opposes the light source and obtains an image that includes silhouettes of one or more legs of the animal. A processor, such as a computer with software and data storage, determines measurements, such as the approximate skeletal trunk length of the animal, from the silhouetted legs in the image. One or more first ultrasound transducers can be arranged to determine an approximate height of the pelvic region, and one or more second ultrasound transducers can be arranged to determine an approximate width of the pelvic region.

  • Publication number: 20060272808
Abstract: A stabilizer is provided for stabilizing a rotary or progressive cavity pump suspended from production tubing in well casing. The stabilizer is connected between the production tubing and the pump. The stabilizer has a tubular body having a cylindrical wall and a longitudinal bore contiguous with the production tubing. A releasable sliding dog is disposed on the exterior of the tubular body and is operatively connected by a link to one or more pistons. Each piston is disposed in a piston housing that is in fluid communication with the bore of the tubular body. Circumferentially spaced-apart feet extend radially outwardly from the tubular body. In operation, actuating fluid pressure advances the pistons uphole, driving the sliding dog up one or more longitudinal outwardly extending ramps to brace against the casing, with the feet contacting the casing and bearing opposing reactive force.

  • Publication number: 20060272804
Abstract: A self-aligning stuffing box having a spherical joint between the upper and lower portions of the housing permits universal movement of the upper portion relative to the lower portion to permit a rod to pass through the bore if the axis of the rod is misaligned relative to the axis of the bore in each of the upper and lower housing portions. An energized seal in the upper housing resides at or below the spherical joint due to a downwardly depending central portion of the upper housing which extends into a recess formed in the lower housing permitting the height of the stuffing box to be relatively short. A second seal is positioned above the first seal and may be spaced sufficiently above the first seal to permit a flapper valve to be installed between the seals. The flapper valve is mounted through a port in the upper housing which is accessible without disassembly of the stuffing box, the seals or the wellhead.

  • Publication number: 20060265223
Abstract: A method and system for using input signal quality in an automatic speech recognition system. The method includes measuring the quality of an input signal into a speech recognition system and varying a rejection threshold of the speech recognition system at runtime in dependence on the measurement of the input signal quality. If the measurement of the input signal quality is low, the rejection threshold is reduced and, if the measurement of the input signal quality is high, the rejection threshold is increased. The measurement of the input signal quality may be based on one or more of the measurements of signal-to-noise ratio, loudness, including clipping, and speech signal duration.

  • Publication number: 20060226294
Abstract: A control device for use with an aerodynamic wing including a bar having a fixed trim adjustment located between the bar and the user. The invention also includes a stopper that permits the user to quickly adjust the range of available dynamic trim. Preferably, the stopper does not lock until it engages the control bar, allowing the user to slide it quickly and easily to the desired location. The control systems of the invention provide a safety depower function when the end of the fixed trim is secured to a safety line.

  • Publication number: 20060204831
Abstract: A gradient of ionomeric material is generated, disposed, or otherwise provided in an electrode suitable for use in a fuel cell. The ionomer concentration, e.g., with respect to the carbon content of the catalyst layer (e.g., expressed as a ratio), is greatest in the area closest to the membrane, e.g., of the fuel cell (e.g., the membrane side), and is decreased in the area furthest from the membrane (e.g., the gas side). By way of another non-limiting example, the ionomer gradient can be formed such that the concentration (or the ratio if expressed in relation to the carbon content of the catalyst layer) can gradually, as opposed to rapidly, decrease as the distance away from the membrane increases.

  • Patent number: 7058274
Abstract: A modular and adjustable backplane assembly for providing a fiber-optics backplane interface to a plurality of router cards functioning as a data router is provided. The assembly includes a first portion having a first array of connectors for interfacing with a compatible array of second connectors engaging specific ones of the router cards, and a second portion having a second array of connectors for interfacing with a compatible array of second connectors engaging specific others of the router cards. The mechanics of the assembly enable a moveable attachment with respect to the first and second portions such that they may be positionally adjusted during mounting, and wherein external data paths are provided from individual ones of the connectors to individual others of the connectors by fiber-optic conductors.

  • Publication number: 20060117055
Abstract: A client-based web server application verification and testing system that requires no technical training, yet provides effective and efficient automated testing. The invention facilitates the rapid generation of test cases for a web site, and the automated execution of those test cases via distributed computing. The transitions through a web site are mapped onto a tree control to exploit user familiarity with a dual pane graphical interface and the drag/drop operation on tree controls. The tree is populated primarily by an autonomous spider exploring the site. Complex sequences requiring form inputs are added by recording sample sequences and then allowing the user to prune from all possible permutations of those samples. The export and import of form input data to a spreadsheet provides additional flexibility. Both the exploration and validation tasks may be distributed to a network of computers.

  • Publication number: 20060109838
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product for performing dynamic Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) endpoint mapping is presented. At least one on net endpoint of a VOIP call is determined. An endpoint data structure is used to store, for each on net endpoint of the call, a key and at least one of an Internet Protocol (IP) address of the end point, a phone number associated with the endpoint, and/or a display name associated with the endpoint. The endpoint data structure is used to correlate call legs across a network. Heuristics of the VOIP call are determined, the heuristics including information relating to the main source call leg and the main destination call leg.

  • Publication number: 20060059278
Abstract: An apparatus and method for communicating information within a network having one or more communication buses (5, 6, 7, 8), consisting of one or more elements (20, 30, 40) to maximise throughput and minimise CPU involvement by executing the following. Compare incoming message identifiers (14) against a set of predetermined identifiers (22). Transpose data sets (12) within the incoming message data frame and where necessary, save and/or transmit new frames as defined by operations dependent upon the incoming identifier. By utilising an optimal set of operands the memory requirement is satisfied by a minimal size of standard type.
