  • Publication number: 20050207907
Abstract: An assembly includes at least one piston, a rotating member, a transition arm, and a mechanism. The transition arm is configured to translate between rotational movement of the rotating member and a first linear motion of the piston. The mechanism is configured to superimpose a second linear motion of the piston onto the first linear motion of the piston. The assembly can be a hydraulic (or air) pump or hydraulic (or air) motor, with the second linear motion resulting in reduced output ripple or smooth torque vs. angular rotation, respectively. Also, the assembly can be an alternator or electric motor, with the additional linear motion resulting in an ac waveform that conforms substantially to a sinewave or a back emf that conforms to the input voltage or electric waveform. In addition, the assembly can be an internal combustion engine in which the second linear motion results in the pistons lingering about top dead center during the combustion process.

  • Publication number: 20050191015
Abstract: In one embodiment a macroscopically-sized specimen is illuminated with radiations of selectable multiple intensities and frequencies for viewing along a single viewing axis. A stage supports specimen to be observed. First and second illumination sources provide respective first and second radiations at predetermined different colors, permissively of different intensities. A special “bifurcated” fiber optic cable receives the first radiation into a first one of two radiation-receiving, or input, ends, and the second radiation into a second one of two radiation-receiving, or input, ends, so as to produce at each of at least two radiation-emitting, or output, ends an illuminating beam in which the first and the second radiations are mixed. The intensities and colors of both radiations are controllable.

  • Publication number: 20050148382
Abstract: A method and device for gaming, in which a primary game is played toward a non-traditional winning outcome, achieved via assignment of multiplier values to each spot on the bingo card (decided in more detail herein). The multiplier bonus differs from the traditional game bingo as follows; by adding the new types of possible winning outcomes based on the multiplied total of matching spots on the bingo card or cards, in addition to or in place of, traditional bingo pattern winning outcomes. These devices may utilize “progressive” awards, allowing players to compete against each other for larger awards. Additionally, multiple levels of multiplier bonus awards may be offered, with each level based on the amount of the initial wager.

  • Patent number: 6913447
Abstract: A metering pump includes an actuating mechanism, and a plurality of piston cylinders coupled to the actuating mechanism. A first of the cylinders has a working volume that differs from a second of the cylinders. The actuating member is centrally located and the cylinders are arranged radially about the actuating mechanism. The working volume of the cylinders can be varied by adjusting the spacing of the cylinders from the actuating mechanism, thus varying the stroke of pistons housed within the cylinders, and/or by providing the cylinders with different inner diameters. A method of metering fluids includes independently adjusting stroke of a plurality of pistons to adjust the volume of metered fluid, and selecting different cylinder diameters to adjust the volume of metered fluid.

  • Patent number: 6726088
Abstract: The top of a carton, with opposite main panels and opposite side panels, has an inner and outer major flap hinged to opposite main panels. The outer major flap has a fold line extending along its length in parallel to a hinge line joining the outer major flap and a main panel. At each side panel, an ear has an ear portion hinged to the side panel and an ear portion hinged to the outer major flap. With this arrangement, the carton may be re-closed by pressing the ears down against the outer major flap so that the outer major flap folds about fold line into a concave V-shape.

  • Patent number: 6693279
Abstract: A signal processing technique applied to the readout of two-dimensional detector arrays provides a dynamic correction mechanism for the varying offsets of the different elements of the array. The outputs of the elements are supplied to an offset correction circuit operative to compensate for the differences in the d.c. or low frequency outputs from a predetermined voltage wherein a fraction of the difference is subtracted at each successive cycle to gradually reduce the difference.
