  • Patent number: 4875146
Abstract: A hand torch has a bulb holder 8 of molded plastics material, designed to protect the bulb 19 from damage due to movement of the batteries 14 if the torch is dropped. The bulb holder has an outer wall 9, inner wall 10, forward flange 11 within which is a bulb-holding recess, and radial ribs 12 against which the forward rim 13 of the battery abuts when the battery contact pip 17 touches the bulb center contact spring 16. The ribs 12 are abutments preventing the battery from moving towards the bulb if the torch is dropped. The lens 4 is made of ORAGLASS DR toughened acrylic material.

  • Patent number: 4711107
Abstract: A cycle lamp or other accessory has a combined switch and locking mechanism. The lamp is mounted on an adjustable bracket by means of a blade projecting from the bracket and received in a socket of the lamp body. The blade has a notch which matches a notch in the socket. A locking quadrant engages these notches when operated by a key of a cylinder lock incorporated in the removable cover of the lamp body. In one position of the lock the cover is locked to the lamp body and the lamp is locked to the blade of the bracket and also impedes access to the clamping screws of the bracket. The key also operates the on/off switch of the lamp, while in the locked condition. In the unlocked position, the lamp is switched off, but when removed from the bracket the lamp can be turned on and off by means of the key.

  • Patent number: 4459646
Abstract: A flashlight construction is disclosed, which comprises a body portion, a head portion attached to the body portion and pivotable about a single pivot axis, and through a pivot arc that lies in the longitudinal plane of the body portion, the body portion adapted to contain at least one battery and the head portion adapted to contain a light bulb. Separate electrical contact means are located in the body portion and the head portion and slidably engage with each other. The electrical contact means cooperates to define an electrical switch means that controls the flow of electrical current. The switch means is located inboard of the head portion and adjacent the pivot axis. Accordingly, the flashlight may be switched off by rotating the head portion into position in abuttment with the body portion, while switching the flashlight on as accomplished by rotating the head portion away from such abuttment.
