Abstract: Simple lactose or lactosamine related compounds which behave as ligands for the ELAM-1 and related receptors are described. These compounds are useful in the treatment of conditions characterized by excess inflammation. These compounds are of the formula ##STR1## wherein each R.sup.1 is independently H or lower alkyl (1-4C); R.sup.2 is H, lower alkyl (1-4C), alkylaryl or one or more additional saccharide residues;R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are each independently H, alkyl(1-6C), aryl or R.sup.3 and R.sup.4, taken together, form a five- or six-membered ring optionally containing a heteroatom selected from the group consisting of O, S, and NR.sup.1 ;wherein said five- or six-membered ring may further be substituted by one or more substituents selected from the group consisting of (CHOR.sup.1).sub.m H wherein m is 1-4, OR.sup.1, OOCR.sup.1, NR.sup.1.sub.2, NHCOR.sup.1, and SR.sup.1 ;Y is H, OR.sup.1, OOCR.sup.1, NR.sup.1.sub.2, NCOR.sup.1 or SR.sup.1 ; andX is --CHR.sup.5 (CHOR.sup.1).sub.2 CHR.sup.6 OR.sup.1 wherein R.

Abstract: Triterpenoid acid derivatives are described that exhibit dual pharmacophobic activities, specifically selectin ligand and leukotriene biosynthetic inhibitory activities, and that thus have significant applications for the treatment or prevention of certain diseases including cancer and diseases associated with the inflammatory process as well as applications for the diagnosis of disease.

Abstract: Triterpenoid acid derivatives have been found to have structures similar to natural ligands to the extent that these derivatives bind to natural selectin receptors including endothelial leukocyte adhesion molecule-1 (ELAM-1) and leukocyte/endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (LECAM-1). The molecules can be administered to the patients by themselves or in pharmaceutical formulations; in order to alleviate inflammation and/or treat other abnormalities associated with the excessive binding of leukocytes to endothelial receptors.

Abstract: This invention relates to substituted indole derivatives possessing lipoxygenase inhibitory, phospholipase A.sub.2 inhibitory and leukotriene antagonist activity, which are useful as anti-inflammatory, antiallergic and cytoprotective agents.

Abstract: There are disclosed substituted benzoylbenzene-, biphenyl- and 2-oxazole- alkanoic acid derivatives and the pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof as inhibitors of PLA.sub.2 and lipoxygenase, and their use in the treatment of inflammatory conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, psoriasis and other immediate hypersensitivity reactions; in the treatment of leukotriene-mediated naso-bronchial obstructive air-passageway conditions, such as allergic rhinitis, allergic bronchial asthma and the like; and as gastric cytoprotective agents.

Abstract: This invention provides a method of treating immunionflammatory skin disease in a mammal in need thereof which comprises administering an antiimmunoinflammatory amount of rapamycin, alone or in combination with cyclosporin A, orally, parenterally, intranasally, intrabronchially, topically, transdermally, or rectally. As such, rapamycin, alone or in combination with cyclosporin A, is useful in treating skin diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, eczematous dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, Lichen planus, Pemphigus, bulus pemphigoid, Epidermolysis bullosa, urticaria, angioedemas, vasculitides, erythemas, cutaneous eosinphilias, and the like.

Abstract: This invention provides a method of treating immunoinflammatory bowel disease in a mammal in need thereof which comprises administering an antiimmunoinflammatory amount of rapamycin, alone or in combination with cyclosporin A. As such, rapamycin, alone or in combination with cyclosporin A, is useful in treating bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative proctitis, and the like.
