  • Patent number: 5829841
Abstract: A vehicle seat belt installation has a structural belt guide mounted on the seat back headrest which guides movement of the seat belt during operation between a clamping member and a clamping surface. A normally deflated inflatable bag includes a body that is mounted on a base having an inextensible fixed length with one end fixed to the structural belt guide. The other end of the bag base mounts an end belt guide loop which embraces the belt. A middle belt guide loop is secured to the bag outer surface embracing the belt to assure that occupant movement causes the belt to move along a travel route over the outer surface of the bag a distance that is substantially equal to said fixed length when the bag is deflated. When sudden vehicle deceleration is sensed, an inflator mounted in the headrest simultaneously moves the clamping member to clamp the belt to the clamping surface against movement and inflates the bag.

  • Patent number: 5813025
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for providing computers, particularly the Unisys A series computers, with the capability to function with disk drives of more than one sector format, especially if a predetermined sector format is inefficient and/or cost prohibitive. Interfacing is provided for processing I/O requests between a predetermined logical sector format (e.g., 180 byte sectors) and a variable physical sector format (e.g., 512 or 720 byte sectors). Read operations compare read request addresses to physical sector boundaries and discard unwanted data. Write operations, using at least one sector buffer, perform a read/modify/write cycle, such that the necessary physical sector data not associated with the write request is read into the sector buffer, modified and written back to the disk along with the write data inserted at the appropriate location. This system and method can effectively increase the usable capacity of selected disk drives by 15-20%.

  • Patent number: 5700037
Abstract: A security improved credit, debit, pass, or cash card is a colorless and transparent semirigid plastic card member with non reflective faces, with no permanent imprinting on the card member to visually identify an issuer, an owner or a card number, but with temporary identification that can be removed by the owner of the card and can be visually read only when backed by an opaque sheet. The card has a bending line across a face of the card member that is a slit through the card with a hinge of flexible plastic film attached over the slit. The card has an opening cut through the card member to allow a person's finger nail to engage the opening to pull the card from a wallet or to attach the card on a shirt button.

  • Patent number: 5198823
Abstract: The range from which transponder replies can be received at a virtual secondary surveillance radar of the type described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,115,771 is extended by replacing the omnidirectional antenna previously utilized to receive replies from transponders within the range of the SSR with a stationary array of a plurality of directive antennas arranged in a circle and having radiation patterns pointing in different directions from the center of and covering a respective sector of the circle, and sequentially switching on the antenna of the array covering the sector in which the rotating beam of the associated SSR is then pointing.

  • Patent number: 4796178
Abstract: A task control mechanism for maintaining a queue of ready or available processes linked together according to an assigned priority for a plurality of central processors where the processors may be assigned to the highest priority task when that processor is not busy executing some higher priority task. The task control mechanism also includes a mechanism for computing task priorities as new tasks are inserted into the queue or removed. The mechanism also maintains an event table which is really a table of event designations to be allocated to different processes upon request where the requesting processes assign a particular function or "meaning" to the event designation. The mechanism of the present invention maintains the state of such allocated events in the event table and signals the related (or "waiting") processes that an event has happened so that the particular system central processors assigned to execute those particular processes may then proceed with their execution.
