  • Patent number: 8445748
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a genetic sequence encoding a polypeptide having flavonoid 3?,5?-hydroxylase (F3?5?H) activity and to the use of the genetic sequence and/or its corresponding polypeptide thereof inter alia to manipulate color in flowers or parts thereof or in other plant tissue. More particularly, the F3?5?H has the ability to modulate dihydrokaempferol (DHK) metabolism as well as the metabolism of other substrates such as dihydroquercetin (DHQ), naringenin and eriodictyol. Even more particularly, the present invention provides a genetic sequence encoding a polypeptide having F3?5?H activity when expressed in rose or gerbera or botanically related plants. The instant invention further relates to antisense and sense molecules or RNAi-inducing molecules corresponding to all or part of the subject genetic sequence or a transcript thereof. The present invention further relates to promoters which operate efficiently in plants such as rose, gerbera or botanically related plants.

  • Patent number: 8279001
Abstract: Several push-pull linear hybrid class H amplifiers are disclosed. A split power rail provides a positive supply rail and a negative supply rail in response to a power supply control voltage. A push-pull amplifier stage is powered by the positive and negative supply rails. The amplifier stage receives an input signal and provides a corresponding amplified output signal. A power supply control circuit provides the power supply control voltage in response to the smaller of the positive and negative supply rails, and the input signal.

  • Patent number: 8230980
Abstract: An elevator system having at least two elevators, wherein at least one of the elevators is designated as an emergency personnel elevator, can be operated to allow a firefighter to commandeer a second elevator for the purpose of ferrying persons to a safe evacuation floor. The elevator system is configured to determine if a request for an evacuation elevator originates from the firefighter elevator car positioned at one of several floors of a building. In response to the request, an elevator car other than the emergency personnel elevator car is designated as the evacuation elevator car. Further, the evacuation elevator car is dispatched to the floor the emergency personnel elevator car is positioned, and the evacuation elevator car is dispatched to a predefined evacuation floor upon receipt of an evacuation request made by the firefighter.

  • Patent number: 7975067
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing alerts on a browser running on a portable handheld device is disclosed. The method generates an asynchronous notification action from the server and in response transmits an alert containing a message indicating availability of HTML pages that describe the nature of the alert. The alert is received at a node on a network and translated into the original message. An alert receipt acknowledgment is transmitted to the server. Access to the alert HTML page is provided through a URL containing the appropriate query strings necessary to present the appropriate HTML page. The invention also discloses a wireless local area network (WLAN) adapter associated with a wireless network that receives paging signals from a server on the network and returns an acknowledgment signal back to the server. The invention also discloses a client/server based method of delivering messages initiated by a client.

  • Patent number: 7694943
Abstract: A carburetor for feeding separate lean and rich channels of an engine intake duct includes a body having a mixing passage with an air intake side and an engine outlet side. A throttle shutter is rotatable about an axis transverse the mixing passage, and a partition is located within the mixing passage upstream of the throttle shutter. The downstream edge of the partition is adjacent the throttle shutter axis whereby in use of the carburetor the partition defines an extension of the lean and rich channels upstream of the throttle shutter, the partition thus providing substantial isolation between the lean and rich channels for all rotational positions of the throttle shutter. In a preferred embodiment a choke shutter is located upstream of the throttle shutter and is rotatable about a further axis transverse the mixing passage, the upstream edge of the partition being adjacent to the axis of the choke shutter.

  • Patent number: 7556014
Abstract: A four-stoke reciprocating internal combustion engine includes the capability to change the distance between the crankshaft axis and the big end of the connecting rod and hence the maximum cylinder displacement within a combustion cycle. This provides for a given inducted volume of gases to be expanded over a greater volume. An exhaust gas aperture is uncovered by the piston towards the end of the expansion stroke. The piston and crankcase space serves as a pre-compression space for supercharging air to be inducted into the cylinder via ducts. A unitary valve device sliding axially co-operates with intake and exhaust apertures of the combustion cylinder. The unitary device extends at times into a recess in the head of the piston. A diffuse ignition source is provided. A fuel pump is operated by action of the piston.

  • Publication number: 20090016549
Abstract: A power supply for limited power sources and an audio amplifier using the power supply comprising power sources to provide an output power signal that can be used by load with a high peak to average power requirement ratio. When such power sources are used to power devices that have a high peak to average power consumption, the average power output of the device is severely limited if the peak power is kept below the power supply limits of the limited power source.
