  • Publication number: 20050230037
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing disposable undergarments having areas of defined elastic material is disclosed. The method provides for staggered cutting knives for severing the elastic material, which results in less necessary material used in the construction of the undergarments.

  • Publication number: 20050230024
Abstract: A method of forming a lap seam for a disposable undergarment is disclosed. The method involves the steps of providing a continuous web of material, folding the material, cutting the material into individual undergarment blanks, folding the edges of the individual blanks, and sealing the edges. The method preferably employs undergarment blanks that are asymmetrical in shape.

  • Patent number: 6648122
Abstract: An apparatus for transferring articles such as absorbent cores or disposable diaper chassis components from a rotary mechanism, such as a pad turner, to a linear mechanism, such as a conveyor for further processing. The invention provides a device for picking an article from the outside of a toroidal surface, thence extending transversely under tension the article to be transferred so that at the point of deposition the article is held flat and at full length. The device is of particular benefit where an article to be transferred is subject to internally biasing elastic forces.

  • Patent number: 6596108
Abstract: A process and apparatus related to a workstation adjacent to a traveling web including a device for intermittently performing an operation affecting the web. An important application involves ultrasonically welding multiple layers of a traveling web. First and second rollers on opposite sides of the workstation are simultaneously shifted in a direction counter to the machine direction each time a bonding force is applied. The overall running speed in the machine remains at a constant velocity due to the resultant festooning effect and thus the dwell time for bonding is increased. Thus the effective operating speed of processed having finite limits may be increased at least 33%. The first and second rollers are eccentrically rotationally mounted, respectively, on third and fourth hollow rollers which are provided with eccentrically positioned hollow cylindrical openings which, in turn, are mounted, respectively, on shafts positioned perpendicularly to the machine direction.

  • Publication number: 20030098258
Abstract: A method is provided for increasing the net present value of fuel production while reducing the sulfur content of one or more fuel products produced in a refinery. The method includes converting at least one existing reformer into a hydrodesulfurization system; and replacing the at least one hydrocarbon reformer with a continuous catalytic reformer.

  • Publication number: 20030082340
Abstract: A pants-type diaper, is provided which is equipped with leg-hole elastics which effectively encircle the leg-holes without traversing the crotch region. Also provided are methods for producing such diapers. Typical products of this type are provided with an outer laminate, formed of an inner liner material and an outer backsheet material between which the leg-hole elastics are disposed. The invention provides for the removal of a strip of inner liner material carrying undesirable crotch-region elastic strands prior to lamination or combining of the remaining inner liner with a complementary outer layer backsheet.

  • Patent number: 5034678
Abstract: A system for measuring the frequency response of an electrooptic device, such as an optical detector, includes an optical amplifier for generating an optical white noise spectrum that is delivered to the detector. In a first embodiment, an optical amplifier or a luminescent fiber amplifier generates a white noise signal due to spontaneous-spontaneous beat noise emission, while a second embodiment utilizes the signal-spontaneous and spontaneous-spontaneous beat noise emissions generated by an optical amplifier driven by a laser source. The frequency response of the detector is determined from a measurement of the detected noise signal wherein any roll-off in the response must be due to the detector since the originally generated noise spectrum is flat.

  • Patent number: 4925520
Abstract: An elastic ribbon is fed over a vacuum drum. Rotating cutter blades use the drum as an anvil to cut the ribbon into spaced apart segments. A sheet comprising a diaper web runs over a roll that is spaced from the drum. A segment transferring and stretching device is arranged between the drum and roll. One embodiment of the transferring device has grippers rotating together about the axes that are not coaxial but are at opposite acute angles relative to the roll and drum axes. The grippers engage an unstretched elastic segment on the drum when the grippers are close together but as they rotate they spread apart and stretch the segment which is then pressed onto the glue treated sheet. In another embodiment of the elastic segment stretching and transferring device, grippers are mounted to the periphery of a vacuum drum. At least one of the grippers is moved alternately toward and away from the other under the influence of a stationary cam as the drum rotates.

  • Patent number: 4219041
Abstract: A novel locking clip is disclosed for use with either fire or smoke dampers, which locking clip normally does not interfere with the operation of those dampers but, which under activation conditions, allows the blades of the damper to move into the desired position, but effectively prevents the blades from moving out of that position until fire conditions have passed.
