  • Publication number: 20170038538
Abstract: A fiber optic cable assembly for terminating a cable using an interior seal component in a passage of a retention body and methods for making the same. The interior seal component inhibits a bonding material from passing through to unintended portions of the retention body, and also serves to position the cable within the retention body during termination. Embodiments may include an optional end seal for inhibiting the bonding agent from escaping the retention body.

  • Patent number: 9529152
Abstract: A laser cleaving system includes a laser and a fixture including holders for respectively holding optical fiber ribbons at different angular positions. The fixture is rotatable relative to the laser for facilitating serial cleaving of the optical fiber ribbons. The fixture is configured for holding the ribbons in a predetermined manner so that the cleaved optical surfaces are of high quality and coplanar, such as when installed in a ferrule. For example, the fixture separates the ends of the ribbons from one another so that the ribbons being held by the fixture may be cleaved substantially independently from one another.

  • Patent number: 9475239
Abstract: Cables are constructed a jacket having an inner section within the cable jacket that facilitates access to the cable core, and which can be removed at the end of the cable during connectorization. The inner section is removed at the end of the cable to create a cavity in which fiber(s) in the cable core can buckle during connectorization to reduce strain on the fibers.

  • Patent number: 9463915
Abstract: A packaging container can be configured to include cushioning material and to be foldable between an expanded state in which the container can be used to ship an article and a compressed state in which the container occupies a smaller volumetric space without the article being contained therein. This can reduce shipping costs associated with transporting the empty container.

  • Patent number: 9412173
Abstract: A method for mapping an environment comprises moving a sensor along a path from a start location (P0) through the environment, the sensor generating a sequence of images, each image associated with a respective estimated sensor location and comprising a point cloud having a plurality of vertices, each vertex comprising an (x,y,z)-tuple and image information for the tuple. The sequence of estimated sensor locations is sampled to provide a pose graph (P) comprising a linked sequence of nodes, each corresponding to a respective estimated sensor location. For each node of the pose graph (P), a respective cloud slice (C) comprising at least of portion of the point cloud for the sampled sensor location is acquired. A drift between an actual sensor location (Pi+1) and an estimated sensor location (Pi) on the path is determined.

  • Publication number: 20160180159
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for detecting a pedestrian (27) moving in an environmental region of a motor vehicle relatively to the motor vehicle based on a temporal sequence of images (18) of the environmental region, which are provided by means of a camera of the motor vehicle (1), wherein characteristic features are extracted from the images (18) and a plurality of optical flow vectors is determined to the characteristic features of at least two consecutively captured images of the sequence by means of an image processing device of the motor vehicle, which indicate a movement of the respective characteristic features over the sequence, wherein for detecting the pedestrian (27), several confidence metrics are determined based on the characteristic features and the optical flow vectors, and based on the confidence metrics, it is examined if a preset plausibility check criterion required for the detection of the pedestrian (27) is satisfied, wherein the pedestrian (27) is supposed to be detected if the p

  • Publication number: 20160097900
Abstract: Methods for cleaving an optical fiber that extends from a ferrule are provided herein. The ferrule can be aligned on a first side of a scribe wire and an unconstrained end of the optical fiber on a second side of the scribe wire. Tension can be applied to the scribe wire with the optical fiber. Relative motion between the scribe wire and the optical fiber can be caused, while the tension is applied with the optical fiber. The scribe wire and the optical fiber can be separated. A fiber optic shard can be cleaved from the optical fiber. The fiber optic shard may include the unconstrained end of the optical fiber.
