  • Publication number: 20050172173
Abstract: A method and system for monitoring a headless embedded system. The method starts by identifying programs to be monitored, a delta time within which the program is supposed to check-in, and at least one remedial action to be taken in the event the program fails to check-in within the delta time. For each identified program the method and system periodically determine whether the time of the last check-in is greater than a current time minus the delta time. When the time of the last check-in for any identified program is less than a current time minus the delta time for that identified program executing a remedial action associated with that program.

  • Publication number: 20050135299
Abstract: A system and method for communicating between a plurality of remote transceivers and a network is discussed including multiple types of serially-connected communication links, upon which data flows are established to communicate information between the remote transceivers and network. A hub is coupled to one end of a hardwired communication link while an access unit is coupled to the other end. In addition to supporting communications on the hardwired link, the hub supports communication with the plurality of remote transceivers over a wireless link of a first type. The access unit at the other end of the hardwired link is in further communication with a base station over a wireless communication link of a second type, while the base station is in further communication with the network. Based on this topology, data flows over this string of interconnected communication media support information transfers between the plurality of remote transceivers and the network.

  • Patent number: 6903871
Abstract: A three-dimensional surface shape is produced from input numerical data. The shape of a sheet elastic material is determined by the positions of a matrix of control rods. The position of each of the rods is determined by a computer-controlled system. Each rod is fitted with two pneumatically controlled locking mechanisms, one for the X coordinate and one for the Y coordinate. When both locks on a particular rod are released the rod is free to move to a new position determined by an elevator. Once all of the rods have been adjusted they are locked in position and the surface has been configured. In one application, the surface can be used as a mold for casting a replica or in another application can be used as the screen in an image projection system.

  • Publication number: 20050116087
Abstract: An aircraft that has a fuselage that has a majority of its frontal surface areas that strike air angled to deflect air down and cause an upward lift on said fuselage and a propulsion means attached to the fuselage on a different angle than the angle of the fuselage thereby causing the bottom of the fuselage to have an angle of attack into the wind like a conventional wing thereby contributing to the lift of the aircraft.

  • Publication number: 20050044548
Abstract: The specification relates to a process of cloning a master embedded system configured with a non-writable volume or partition that stores an embedded operating system, where the master system is configured to provide an overlay to store updates directed to the non-writable volume or partition. A flag in the master system is configured with a setting, where the configured flag is for indicating that the overlay is needed and has not been provided. After configuring the flag, a master image of the master system is created, where the master image includes the configured flag. A clone of the master system is created on a storage of another system based on the master image. Storage units may store images created with the process. Storage units may also store cloned systems produced with the images.

  • Publication number: 20050027957
Abstract: A method of protecting memory locations in an embedded system using a write filter. The method includes the steps of starting a write filter that intercepts writes to the protected memory locations and stores the writes in a cache; starting a state machine with a change state and a normal state; upon starting the state machine, entering the change state when an indication is present that data needs to be persisted to the protected memory otherwise entering the normal state; in the normal state identifying critical writes to the protected memory and creating at least one update file containing the changes in such writes; and in the change state, applying the changes in the update file and rebooting the system in a manner that persists the changes to the protected memory.

  • Publication number: 20030130818
Abstract: A three-dimensional surface shape is produced from input numerical data. The shape of an elastic surface is determined by the positions of a first matrix of memory rods. The position of each of the memory rods is determined by a flexible sheet which is contoured by a second matrix of control rods and is computer-controlled. After control rods transfer the contour data to the memory rods, the control rods are reset to receive new contour data. Both the memory rod and control rod are fitted with two pneumatically controlled locking mechanisms, one for the X-coordinate and one for the Y-coordinate. When both locks on a particular rod are released the rod is free to move to a new position determined by an elevator. Once all of the rods have been adjusted, they are locked in position and the surface has been configured.

  • Patent number: 4259379
Abstract: Disclosed is an applicator for the application of liquid to webs and methods of using it. A web-guide path is defined through the applicator and has an intermediate enlargement. One or more inlets and one or more outlets are provided at the exterior of the applicator and at the enlargement respectively, which are part of a closed passageway system for the supply of liquid to the enlargement. A slit-like passageway system affords passage of web to the enlargement. An exit passageway with one outlet affords passage of web, to which liquid has been applied, from the enlargement out of the applicator. Means are provided for changing characteristics of the exit passageway whereby selectively to influence the application of liquid to the web. By using such an applicator in which provision is made for changing the size or shape, or both, of the exit passageway, considerable control may be exercised over both the degree of impregnation of the liquid into the web and the thickness of liquid coating on the web.
