Abstract: Example methods and apparatus to determine digital subscriber line (DSL) configuration parameters based on current and historical DSL performance characteristics are disclosed. A disclosed method includes obtaining first data representative of a current performance characteristic for a DSL modem, obtaining second data representative of a historical performance characteristic for the DSL modem, computing, at a maintenance server, a configuration parameter using the first and the second data, and reinitializing the DSL modem with the computed DSL configuration parameter when the computed configuration parameter has a value different from a previous value of the configuration parameter, wherein the DSL configuration parameter is computed prior to the reinitializing of the DSL modem.

A comparison is made between network parameters of a Network Performance Layer and network services of a Service Layer. Once network parameters are within a threshold for providing a given service, a state change can be made in the configuration parameters to suit the provided service.

Initially, a real-time performance parameter is received from a first termination unit that is coupled to an DSL circuit. The real-time performance parameter is measured at the termination unit after the termination unit is provisioned and after the DSL circuit is placed in-service. A value of a control parameter associated with the DSL circuit can be modified based on the measured real-time performance parameter. Further, activity over the DSL circuit can be monitored in real-time and when usage of the DSL circuit is below a threshold, the provisionable service parameter that corresponds to the control parameter is modified. Moreover, a first re-provisioning cycle between the first termination unit and a second termination unit coupled to the DSL circuit can be initiated using the provisionable service parameter.

In one embodiment the ground stud engages the hole in the composite structure in a transition fit. In another embodiment the ground stud is countersunk within the composite structure. Embodiments of the present methods include drilling a hole in the composite structure; inserting the ground stud into the hole such that the ground stud is in electrical contact with conductive fibers within the composite structure; securing the ground stud to the composite structure; and attaching a connective device to the ground stud such that the connective device is in electrical contact with the ground stud.
