  • Patent number: 7587398
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a client-server network system implementing a multi-tier caching strategy for a user to access a document efficiently. The system comprises a client cache assistant serving as proxy for web browsers, a remote cache server managing user-requested documents and a search engine repository storing a huge number of documents as a backup for the remote cache server. Upon receipt of a document request, the client cache assistant examines its client cache to identify the requested document. If not successful, the remote cache server then identifies a copy of the requested document in its own cache and transmits a content difference between the two copies to the client cache assistant. If the server copy is still not fresh or not found, the remote cache server seeks another copy of the requested document from the search engine repository and transmits another content difference to the client cache assistant.

  • Publication number: 20090120274
Abstract: A protective structure for a vehicle having an opening on an upper surface is provided. One embodiment of the invention has at least a partial enclosure around an area defined laterally by the vehicle opening with an overhead and side protective capability. An embodiment of the invention has an overhead cover that is formed to substantially enclose a top area of the enclosure and having multiple panels that may be locked into place or opened by an occupant for exit through a top area of the enclosure. The multiple panels in this embodiment extend upwardly and inwardly from a section of the enclosure's side walls. Ballistic windows are provided on the protective structure such that an occupant can view laterally and vertically through the enclosure and overhead cover. A shield or protective plate can be mounted on one side of the enclosure.

  • Publication number: 20090037393
Abstract: Upon receipt of a document request, a client assistant examines its cache for the document. If not successful, a server searches for the requested document in its cache. If the server copy is still not fresh or not found, the server seeks the document from its host. If the host cannot provide the copy, the server seeks it from a document repository. Certain documents are identified from the document repository as being fresh or stable. Information about each these identified documents is transmitted to the server which inserts entries into an index if the index does not already contain an entry for the document. If and when this particular document is requested, the document will not be present in the server, however the server will contain an entry directing the server to obtain the document from the document repository rather than the document's web host.

  • Publication number: 20080222691
Abstract: Systems and methods of eliminating or reducing interference resulting from harmonics of local oscillator frequencies of mixers are shown. In one embodiment, a determination is made as to a zone or zones within an intermediate frequency band associated with undesired spurs. Inter-tuner spurs and intra-tuner spurs may be identified such that frequency information of the identified spurs may be utilized to define a plurality of exclusion zones. Local oscillator frequencies may subsequently be efficiently selected in view of the exclusion zone information. Embodiments may also determine a score for identified spurs which may be used to optimally select from within a set of spur-generating local oscillator frequencies.

  • Publication number: 20080222023
Abstract: A method of auctioning exchange traded assets is described. Before commencing the auction bidding, the seller establishes a maximum asset amount representing a greatest amount of the exchange traded assets to be auctioned, and a minimum asset price representing a minimum acceptable bid amount for a given amount of the exchange traded assets. During the bidding, bids are received for the assets, with each bid including a bid price and a corresponding bid amount of assets. After the bidding, a market demand is determined that represents the total of all the bid amounts for the bids. If the market demand is greater than or equal to the maximum asset amount, a clearing price is established that allocates the maximum asset amount of the assets according to the bids at a final price between and including the clearing price and the minimum asset price.

  • Publication number: 20080025572
Abstract: Systems and methods of authorizing an activity, such as a financial transaction, are disclosed. Authorizing the activity may be accomplished by comparing a biometric sample to a biometric specimen. The sample is stored in a database and includes biometric information corresponding to two physiologically distinct portions of an individual. When that individual later is a person desiring to authorize an activity, he provides a specimen that includes biometric information corresponding to two physiologically distinct portions of his person. A comparison between the sample and the specimen is performed, and if a match is determined then the activity is authorized. If the comparison is performed and a match is not determined, then the activity is not authorized.

  • Publication number: 20070258628
Abstract: The invention may be embodied as a fingerprint scanner having an ultrasonic wave detector, a platen, an ultrasonic wave generator located between the detector and the platen. The invention may be embodied as a method of scanning a finger. One such method includes providing a platen, a detector and a generator, the generator being placed between the platen and the detector. A finger may be provided on the platen, and an ultrasound wave pulse may be sent from the generator toward the finger. The wave pulse may be reflected from the finger, and received at the detector. The received wave pulse may be used to produce an image of the finger.

  • Publication number: 20070232866
Abstract: Systems, methods, and associated user interfaces for medical patient health monitoring systems are provided. Data entry at a patient system deployed at a patient location is facilitated through a soft keypad graphical element. The soft keypad graphical element defines user input areas of the display which correspond to respective alphanumeric inputs, and user inputs within any of the user input areas are detected. Detected user inputs may be displayed, stored in a memory, transmitted to a remote location, or otherwise processed. Patient-site monitoring system configuration mechanisms are also provided to support configuration of a patient system to operate with any of various peripheral devices. The presentation of prompts and other information to a patient is preferably controlled according to how the patient system has been configured, illustratively the types of peripheral devices in conjunction with which the patient system has been configured to operate.
