  • Publication number: 20160001870
Abstract: A method of loading cargo into an aircraft is provided. The method includes the steps of sliding a cargo unit through a cargo door opening of an aircraft and into a cargo compartment of the aircraft perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the aircraft. The cargo is slid past and in contact with a first restraint, wherein the first restraint is fixed to a seat track disposed proximate to the cargo door opening, such that a side surface of the cargo unit contacts a portion of the first restraint. The cargo continues to slide into the cargo compartment, and does not contact a side surface of a second restraint that is fixed inboard of the first seat track, wherein a forward facing surface of each of the first and second restraints are disposed along a plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis.

  • Publication number: 20160000382
Abstract: Systems, devices and methods are described for physiological monitoring, for example monitoring EEG signals to detect the onset or probability of adverse events. The systems, devices and methods discussed herein may monitor received EEG signals to identify trends or patterns in the signal that are either indicative of ongoing seizures or indicative of a future risk of seizure. The systems, devices and methods provide the user with increased control and flexibility in the monitoring processes that produce the alerts. In particular, in some implementations the physician is able to make adjustments during monitoring and customize the process by which EEG data is displayed and analyzed during the patient monitoring without pausing the monitoring to make the adjustments.

  • Publication number: 20160002457
Abstract: Composite hydrogels with a chiral organization with tunable responsive photonic properties are conceived. A polymerizable hydrophilic monomer such as acrylamide is reacted in the presence of nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) to give a composite hydrogel with cellulose nanocrystals embedded in a chiral nematic organization. Through control of the reaction conditions, the hydrogel can exhibit photonic colour that can be varied throughout the visible and near-infrared regions. The colour shifts substantially and reversibly upon swelling and shrinking of the hydrogel through solvation in aqueous and nonaqueous media. The responsive properties can be tailored both through choice of monomer and/or through chemical modification of the NCC surface. Examples of possible applications of the materials are: tunable reflective filters, chemical sensors, stationary phases for electrophoresis of chiral or achiral substances, and as a template to generate new materials with chiral nematic structures.
