  • Patent number: 4740360
Abstract: Carrier supported catalysts are prepared, comprising metal ions which in their most stable state occur as anions or as higher-valency cations which exhibit a poor interaction with the support material by deposition-precipitation through increasing the hydroxyl ion concentration in homogeneous solution. According to the invention, prior to deposition-precipitation the metal ions are electrochemically reduced to soluble metal ions having a lower valency. Preferably, the pH value of a suspension of the support to be loaded in a solution of the electrochemically reduced metal ions is homogeneously increased by hydrolysis of compounds such as urea or isocyanate, or by the controlled injection of an alkaline solution below the surface of the suspension.

  • Patent number: 4629612
Abstract: Reaction mass containing mixed oxides of iron with one or more metals of groups IV to VII of the periodic table of the elements, wherein the mixed oxides are deposited in finely divided form on an inert refractory substrate with a high specific surface area. The invention also relates to methods for the manufacture of this reaction mass as well as the use thereof as a catalyst for the shift reaction of carbon monoxide with steam, forming carbon dioxide and hydrogen at an elevated temperature, and/or the removal of sulphur compounds from gases.

  • Patent number: 4478800
Abstract: Process for removal of sulfur compounds from gases by passing the gases over an absorption mass which, on an inert support having a specific surface area of more than 10 m.sup.2 per g, contains metal oxides which react with hydrogen sulfide to give metal-sulfur compounds and at least 20% by weight of which metal oxides are present in finely divided form with a particle size of less than 40 nm. The gases are passed at a temperature of 5.degree. to 800.degree. • Patent number: 4190560
Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of a particulate at least inchoately catalytically active composition affixed to the surfaces of a solid particulate carrier material. An aqueous medium is formed by homogeneously suspending a finely divided, solid particulate carrier material in an aqueous solution initially containing (a) a water soluble compound of a metal capable of forming the catalytically active composition which soluble compound, upon increase of the hydroxyl ion concentration in the aqueous medium will form a water insoluble compound, and (b) a hydrolyzable agent which upon heating will develop hydroxyl ions in the aqueous medium. The aqueous solution/suspension thus formed is heated with agitating so as to gradually and homogeneously increase the hydroxyl ion concentration thereby effecting the precipitation of the water insoluble compound on the carrier material.
