  • Patent number: 9273251
Abstract: Equipment and a process for separating bitumen from oil sand in a process stream are described. The equipment includes several processing vessels and one or more local area radio frequency applicators to selectively heat the process stream in local areas of the equipment. The local area can be adjacent to an input or output of a component of the equipment. Also described is equipment for processing an oil sand—water slurry, including a slurrying vessel, a slurry pipe, and a local area radio frequency applicator. The local area radio frequency applicator is located outside of the slurry pipe, and heats the local area without significantly heating the contents of the slurrying vessel or of the downstream portion of the slurry pipe.

  • Patent number: 9220572
Abstract: A method of implanting a hip joint prosthesis into a patient can include obtaining image data of hip joint anatomy of the patient. Physical activities that the patient desires to participate in subsequent to implanting the hip prosthesis can be determined. A size and an initial placement of the hip joint prosthesis based on the image data can be determined. A desired range of motion of the hip joint prosthesis based on the determined physical activities can be determined. A plan can be created comprising a desired implanted location of the hip joint prosthesis and based on the desired range of motion. The plan can be incorporated onto a guide. The plan can be executed with the guide thereby implanting the hip joint prosthesis into the patient at the desired implanted position.

  • Publication number: 20150345446
Abstract: A method of mitigating axial loads on a plunger of a fuel pump is disclosed. The fuel pump includes a compression chamber. The compression chamber receives a supply of fuel while the fuel pump is in an operational state and correspondingly facilitates exertion of an axial load on the plunger. The method initiates with receiving a change in voltage of the strain gauge circuit while the fuel pump is in operation. The change in voltage corresponds to the axial load exerted by the compression chamber on the plunger. Thereafter, the axial load on the plunger is determined by use of the change in the voltage of the strain gauge circuit. The axial load on the plunger is compared with a threshold value. If the axial load breaches the threshold value, the supply of fuel to the compression chamber is altered.

  • Publication number: 20150278288
Abstract: Embodiments regard maintaining data consistency between transactional and non-transactional data stores. Embodiments may include receiving a request to archive a set of data stored in a first data store, recording a high water mark in the first data store for the set of data, and archiving the set of data. Archiving the set of data may include copying the set of data into a second data store and inserting a high water mark for the set of data in the first data store and the second data store. Embodiments may further include updating a reference high water mark upon successful completion of operations for the archiving of the data, the reference high water mark representing completion of a last successful archive operation, and, upon receiving a query for requested data contained in the first or second data store, determining whether to allow viewing of the requested data based at least in part on a current value of the reference high water mark.

  • Publication number: 20150156982
Abstract: The present invention relates to new methods of selecting and breeding organisms, in particular organisms which exhibit symbiotic behaviour with symbionts, and to new organisms and symbiota developed thereby, such as plant or grass and endophyte symbiota. Multiple symbionts are deployed in multiple organisms and selected for improved symbiotic compatibility and performance early in the breeding process. Methods include producing improved organisms from germplasm, by inoculating host organism germplasm libraries with symbionts selected from symbiont libraries and selecting improved host organisms exhibiting desired symbiota characteristics, and selection of organism-symbiont associations with a desired genetic and metabolic profile by metagenomic analysis of nucleic acid libraries from an organism or organism-symbiont association.

  • Publication number: 20150113876
Abstract: A door closer comprises a piston cooperating with a rotating pinion. Upon rotation of the pinion in the door opening direction, the piston moves toward the second end of the housing forcing fluid from a second variable volume chamber through a passage to a first variable volume chamber and compressing a spring assembly for storing energy. The spring assembly urges the piston toward the first end of the housing for forcing fluid from the first variable volume chamber to the second variable volume chamber and rotating the pinion in the door closing direction. A controller controls the position of a valve in the passage based on the sensed angular position of a door and the position of the valve for determining the amount of hydraulic fluid flowing through the valve.
