  • Publication number: 20160100555
Abstract: An apparatus for securing the legs of livestock animals includes a frame also which defines an entrance and an exit and which presents sidewalls which extend between the entrance and the exit thereby presenting a chute suitable for the ingress and egress of a livestock animal. Near the floor of the chute and between the entrance and the exit are leg bars which are able to move between a retracted position suitable for allowing the lower legs of a livestock animal to move freely between the leg bars and the sidewalls and an extended position in which the leg bars are closer to the sidewalls so that the lower legs of a livestock animal are held securely between the leg bars and sidewalls. The apparatus can be used to secure the lower legs of a livestock animal and thereby immobilize the animal.

  • Publication number: 20150013618
Abstract: An improved squeeze chute provides compliance between the side gates or side panels of the squeeze chute. Squeeze chutes generally include pivoting side panels that move between an open position and a closed position. A hydraulically driven rock shaft assembly is rotated by an actuator and is connected by linkages to the upper ends of the pivoting side panels. Compliance in the closing action of the panels is provided by interposing a compliant torsion assembly between the actuator and the rock shaft. The compliant torsion assembly has a first portion that surrounds the rock shaft and a second portion which surrounds the first portion. Elastic elements are interposed between the first portion and the second portion. A tab extends from the second portion to which one end of the actuator is attached. The other end of the actuator is attached to the frame of the squeeze chute.

  • Publication number: 20140230753
Abstract: Kick bar assemblies mounted to an opposite side walls of a squeeze chute structure each include an upright shaft that is rotatably mounted to the squeeze chute wall. Each kick bar assembly connects at one end to an actuator for rotating the shaft and at the other end to a kick bar which may be pivoted by the actuator between a first retracted position, a second normal extended position in which the kick bar is generally normal to the wall of the squeeze chute and a third forward position in which the kick bar is rotated forward of the normal position and defines an acute angle with the squeeze chute wall. The actuators controlling the motion of the kick bars are capable of being simultaneously remotely controlled to act in unison.

  • Patent number: 8100091
Abstract: A system and method for moving livestock includes a sequence of interconnected semicircular enclosures in which the periphery of each enclosure extends generally to the center of the next enclosure. At the center of each enclosure is a turret unit including a support frame, a turret frame and a panel. The panel extends generally to the edge of the enclosure. The turret frame and panel are capable of two modes of movement: a sweeping mode and a shuttle mode. In the sweeping mode, the turret frame rotates the extended panel as the panel sweeps around the semicircular enclosure. In the shuttle mode the panel is translated across the enclosure from one side of the turret frame to the other side of the turret frame. Panels can thus be alternately swept around their respective enclosures and shuttled across their respective enclosures to present translating enclosed areas for livestock as the livestock progress through a series of interconnected semicircular enclosures.
