  • Publication number: 20070158497
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an apparatus for driving an aircraft having an undercarriage wheel, comprising aircraft drive means for driving an undercarriage wheel, and a clutch disposed between said driven means and said wheel, wherein said drive means and said clutch are directly connected to the undercarriage apparatus. Said apparatus may have gears disposed between said drive means clutch, or between said clutch and said wheel. • Publication number: 20070042854
Abstract: The present invention is a compound planetary gear system which has a moveable sun gear and a lockable sun gear to change the gear ratio between a high gear ratio and a pseudo 1:1 slipping ratio. The system makes use of a ratchet and pawl mechanism to provide a safety backup for when the lockable sun gear is locked. • Publication number: 20070035262
Abstract: In the present invention, several polyphase devices are connected together: an inverter, and electrical rotating machine, and a resistive load or braking resistor. The purpose of the resistive load is to dissipate excess electrical power which may be produced when the inverter acts to slow down the rotating machine, causing the rotating machine to act as a generator. In common art, this resistive load is a single DC resistor coupled to the DC link of the inverter via a separate resistor control transistor. In the present invention, the resistive load is a mesh connected array of resistors, and is electrically connected to the same inverter output terminals that the rotating machine is connected to. When it is desired that the resistors absorb energy, for example from a braking operation, then the harmonic content of the inverter output is adjusted, thus placing voltage differences across the resistor array and causing current to flow in the resistors.

  • Publication number: 20070013238
Abstract: An electrical rotating apparatus is provided that has variable impedance. This is achieved by connecting one of the polyphase components of the apparatus in a mesh connection. The spanning value, L, of such a mesh connection may be varied by changing the harmonic content supplied by an inverter component. Also provided is a method for connecting an inverter to a motor, wherein a switching arrangement permits the simple alteration between various mesh connections of different span value, changing thereby the Volts/Hertz ratio of the motor.

  • Publication number: 20060273686
Abstract: The present invention discloses small compact motor systems which may be located inside a vehicle drive wheel, and which allow a drive motor to provide the necessary torque with reasonable system mass. The motor systems of the invention utilize polyphase electric motors, and are preferably connected to appropriate drive systems via mesh connections, to provide variable V/Hz ratios. In one embodiment the stator coils are wound around the inside and outside of the stator. In a further embodiment, the machine contains a high number of phases, greater than three. In a further embodiment, the phases are connected in a mesh connection. In a further embodiment, each half-phase is independently driven to enable second harmonic drive for an impedance effect. Improvements are apparent in efficiency and packing density.

  • Publication number: 20050242758
Abstract: In the present invention, several polyphase devices are connected together: an inverter (420), and electrical rotating machine (440), and a resistive load or braking resistor (430). The purpose of the resistive load is to dissipate excess electrical power which may be produced when the inverter acts to slow down the rotating machine (440), causing the rotating machine to act as a generator. In common art, this resistive load is a single DC resistor coupled to the DC link of the inverter via a separate resistor control transistor. In the present invention, the resistive load is a mesh connected array of resistors, and is electrically connected to the same inverter output terminals that the rotating machine is connected to. • Publication number: 20050218863
Abstract: A rotating induction machine, containing five or more different phases, having windings distributed according to a sinc function with a cutoff frequency allowing low-order spatial harmonics but preventing higher order spatial harnomics from flowing. In a preferred embodiment, the machine is connected to drive means capable of injecting third harmonic into the machine. In a further preferred embodiment, the windings are connected to the drive means with a mesh connection and the machine has five phases.

  • Publication number: 20050116474
Abstract: An electronically controlled electrical power generator comprises a generator driven by a heat engine, operated by control means, and carrying an electrical load. Operation of the heat engine is at wide open throttle. Control over engine operation and electrical output of the generator is achieved by electronically manipulating the electric load, and/or adjusting excitation levels at the generator's magnetic fields, so as to change engine/generator equilibrium speed. In a beneficial embodiment, the generator is powered by an energy storage unit, to temporarily act as a motor and rotate the engine when starting, and during power absorbing strokes.

  • Patent number: 6054837
Abstract: A polyphase induction machine operated by an inverter drive system. The machine is constructed with concentrated full span windings. Twelve or more phases are used to sufficiently cover the airgap region, in contrast to the conventional three phases using distributed and chorded windings. Substantial efficiency and starting torque benefits are thereby obtained.

  • Patent number: 5737539
Abstract: An electronic prescription creation system for use by professional prescribers at the point of care has a prescription division subsystem permitting creation of a single prescription to be automatically divided into two components for fulfilment of one portion quickly and locally at higher cost and of another portion by remote mail order taking more time but providing a cost saving for a major part of the prescription. The prescription creation system has an ability to access remote source databases for system presentation to the prescriber of relevant, authorized and current drug, drug formulary and patient history information, with dynamic creation of a transient virtual patient record, the information being presented to the prescriber before completion of the prescription, permitting enhancement of the quality of prescribing decisions.

  • Patent number: 5464464
Abstract: A method for reducing particulate iron oxide and/or other iron units to molten iron utilizing gaseous hydrogen as reductant in a reducing furnace, in which the ore freely falls during the melting and reduction process. Reacted top gas is purified and recirculated through the reduction furnace, establishing a counter-flow relationship to the particulate iron oxide, thereby heating and reducing the oxide. The heat for reduction is generated by combusting a fraction of the hydrogen reductant with oxygen. Heat may also be supplied via the use of electric arc heating. Oxygen may be partially or wholly replaced with water in order to maintain reaction oxidizer ratios while reducing heat supplied to the reaction.

  • Patent number: 5454853
Abstract: In a method for the production of steel in an environmentally benign fashion, energy sources other than conventional fossil fuels are used to produce reductant fuels. These reductant fuels are used for the reduction of iron ore and its conversion to steel. Furthermore, these reductant fuels may be stored in order to smooth fluctuations in the primary energy supply. Electrical energy may be stored to smooth out short term fluctuations in the primary energy source. Energy for the reduction and conversion process may be supplied in part directly from the primary energy source, avoiding inefficiencies in the production and storage of the reductant fuel. Possible primary energy sources include solar power, wind power, off-peak power supplied as part of load leveling plants, as well as conventional constant power output from an ordinary power plant.

  • Patent number: 5437706
Abstract: In a method for operating a blast furnace, the primary supply of reductant and heat is an hydrogen reducing blast. Oxygen or water vapor is injected into the blast furnace to control temperature. Coke is used to provide appropriate gas channels and carburization. Coke use rate can be reduced to less than 10% of that of conventional blast furnace operation. A conventional blast furnace may be converted to this method with minor modification.
