  • Patent number: 7617137
Abstract: Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for tracking surgical items. A sensor reads RFID tags and confirms the type of surgical procedure to be performed on a patient's body. An allowable zone is determined in the patient's body that corresponds to the type of surgical procedure to be performed. When movement of a surgical item is detected outside the allowable zone in the patient's body, then an alarm is triggered to indicate the surgical item is moving towards a zone in the patient's body in which the surgical item may not be used.

  • Publication number: 20090259717
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses are provided for acquiring and processing incident data among multiple networked computing apparatuses. A method involves provisioning an interface associated with a mode of service of a computing apparatus, receiving incident data via the interface, and analyzing the data received according to rules associated with the mode of service. The interface includes a form for documenting the incident data where the form is compatible with one or more fields capable of being concurrently shared among networked computing apparatuses. The interface may be modified in response to receiving the data where a view of the incident data is based on the mode of service. The method further involves recording the data received and transmitting the data received to one or more other networked computing apparatuses over a wireless network based on a mode of service activated on each of the networked computing apparatuses.

  • Publication number: 20090193268
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are disclosed for producing and delivering packetized power within a DC computing environment. Within the DC computing environment a power requirement or request is communicated to a power router. The power router then determines a power source capable of fulfilling the power requirement and then causes the power to be delivered in packetized form. The packetized power is appended to a message header which allows the power packet to be received by the requesting device.

  • Publication number: 20090190046
Abstract: Dedicated projectors and devices with projection abilities such as digital cameras or camcorders have projections that are corrected to compensate for irregularities in the surfaces receiving the projection. The image data being projected is compensated to account for the irregularities by observing the irregularities with a camera to produce image data and creating the compensation based on that image data. Irregularities of the projection receiving location including angular relationships to the projector causing keystoning, noisy surfaces with reflectivity or absorption, color patterns, non-planar regions, intervening objects, and the like may be accounted for during the compensation. The projection of the image itself may be utilized to capture the result of projecting onto the irregularities. Projection of target grids, such as using infrared, may be used to capture the result of projecting onto the irregularities. The captured image may be processed to produce a compensated image to be projected.

  • Publication number: 20090168984
Abstract: Audio processing is provided to determine whether an audio issue is present within a multi-participant communication system such as a teleconference or videoconference bridge or a trunk dispatch system. Audio issues such as background noise, background conversations, or other unwanted audio that is being interjected into the multi-participant conversation and that may be dominating the audio are detected by measuring characteristics of audio samples taken from the communication ports of the multi-participant communication system. A correction may then be applied to the audio received through the communication port by a processor of the multi-participant communication system without intervention by an administrator, such as by muting the port, applying a noise cancellation to audio from the port, or time-shifting the audio from the port.

  • Publication number: 20090141435
Abstract: Containers provide for the retrieval of data from a data source at a first location and for transport to a second location where the data may be uploaded to a backup system. The containers may include multiple components such as a transfer housing that has a physical connection to a data source and a storage housing that may have a contactless data connection to the transfer housing. The storage housing may be hermetically sealed such that decontamination of the storage housing may be achieved. Accordingly, the storage housing may rescue data from a data source at a contaminated location, be moved to a decontamination zone where decontamination of the storage housing occurs, and then be moved to an uncontaminated location for upload via a transfer housing to the backup system.

  • Publication number: 20080221916
Abstract: Traffic disturbances are detected and data is collected by various sensors where the data reflects the entity that is responsible for the disturbance and the number of vehicles that are impacted by the disturbance. The data is analyzed to determine whether a traffic violation has occurred and to then assess a fine based at least on the number of vehicles that have been impacted as a result of the traffic violation. The fine may then be collected by notifying the entity that is responsible, such as by sending a message to an electronic device of the entity. The notification may provide for an automated payment of the fine or an option to appeal the fine. Additionally, those affected by the traffic disturbance may be identified and granted a portion of the fine that has been imposed and collected.

  • Publication number: 20080215020
Abstract: The invention relates to the development of apparatuses and methods for healing wounds that combine use of a high glycerin-content hydrogel dressing with negative pressure for removing exudate from a wound. In some embodiments, apparatuses and methods further include a photon-emitting device that delivers near infrared stimulation to the wound for further accelerating wound healing. The apparatuses and methods described herein can be used to heal a variety of wounds, including acute wounds, severe burns, orthopedic and traumatic wounds (e.g, flap and meshed graft), skin resurfacing procedure wounds, and neuropathic wounds (e.g., diabetic pressure ulcers). The hydrogel dressing is capable of absorbing substantial amounts of fluids from stimulated wet wounds as well as donating substantial amounts of fluids to dry or necrotic wounds, depending upon the moisture content and nature of the substrate to which it is applied.
