  • Patent number: 8563052
Abstract: Disclosed are the novel glycolipoprotein gintonin isolated and identified from ginseng, a method for preparing the same, and uses thereof. Gintonin causes a transient increase in intracellular free Ca2+ level, which in turn activates endogenous Ca2+-activated chloride channel to elevate intracellular calcium levels. Therefore, the novel glycolipoproteins are useful in the therapy and prophylaxis of calcium deficiency-associated diseases as well as effectively inducing calcium-dependent physiological activities, including adaptogenic activity, immunostimulatory activity, aphrodisiac activity, neuroprotection and neuroactivation, angiogenesis, and antidiabetic activity.

  • Patent number: 8426057
Abstract: The present invention relates to a pouch type case having trimming portions formed on both sides or four corners thereof and a battery pack including the same. The trimming portions are formed on the corners of the pouch type case such that the trimming portions are indented toward an electrode assembly accommodating part to reduce a unit area so as to increase pressure applied to unit cells when a battery pack is assembled, thereby facilitating assembling of the battery pack and increasing cell capacity per unit area. Furthermore, the unit cells can be fixed in the battery pack more stably. The pouch type case reduces the unit area so as to include a relatively large number of cells for pressure applied to the cells when the battery pack is assembled to thereby increase the cell capacity.

  • Patent number: 8107916
Abstract: Systems and methods for demodulating a plurality of contiguous channels contained within a bandlimited portion of a radio-frequency (RF) input signal are provided. In an embodiment, the bandlimited portion of the RF input signal is down-converted to baseband. After down-conversion, the bandlimited portion overlaps at baseband with a mirror image of the bandlimited portion. The plurality of contiguous channels within the down-converted signal similarly overlap at baseband and subsequently occupy a bandwidth substantially equal to half that required before down-converting. Image rejection is performed in the digital domain to recover each of the plurality of overlapping channels.

  • Patent number: 8043743
Abstract: Provided is a pouch-type secondary battery including an electrode assembly, electrode tabs extending outward from the electrode assembly, a pouch-type battery case for housing the electrode assembly, first sealing portions for sealing the pouch-type battery case and the electrode tabs, and second sealing portions formed at positions with the exception of electrode tab-positioned sites between the first sealing portions and the electrode assembly. The secondary battery is configured to have a structure such that a channel is formed with electrode tab portions by further sealing inside portions of the electrode tabs with the exception of electrode tab-occupied portions. Such a structure allows for easy unidirectional discharge of gases even when the battery inside reaches a certain level of internal pressure due to evolution of gases and enables previous expectation of the gas discharge direction. Therefore, it is possible to provide a secondary battery with improved safety.
