  • Patent number: 4186705
Abstract: An installation for preheating the suction mixture of a carburetor internal combustion engine with a heat pipe extending from a place of the exhaust gas line system to a place of the suction pipe system and with a heat-absorption zone, on the one hand, and a heat emission zone on the other; the heat pipe leads from its heat-absorption zone to a lower part of the suction pipe directly adjoining the carburetor outlet and in its heat emission zone partly surrounds with its flat condenser jacket from below the flow channel of this pipe along a wall surface area while leaving free the main part of the pipe cross section.

  • Patent number: 4125997
Abstract: An internal combustion engine with an exhaust line in which are arranged a reduction catalyst and downstream thereof an oxidation catalyst, whereby during the starting phase of the internal combustion engine, additional air is supplied to the reduction catalyst, and in the operationally warmed-up condition of the internal combustion engine, additional air is supplied to the oxidation catalyst while at the same time a part of the additional air continues to be fed to the reduction catalyst.

  • Patent number: 4098252
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine by connecting or disconnecting one or several of the cylinders with a throttling device provided in the suction system of the internal combustion engine; simultaneously with the connection or disconnection of the cylinder or cylinders, the position of the throttling device is so changed jump-like that the output of the internal combustion engine remains essentially unchanged.

  • Patent number: 4077368
Abstract: A four-cycle reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine having a main combustion chamber connected by a spill port with an unflushed ignition chamber. A fuel injection nozzle and a spark plug are arranged at the ignition chamber at angles with respect to one another. Fuel supply means are also provided at the main combustion chamber for supplying a substantial majority of the fuel consumed by the engine during operation. In order to maximize the effectiveness of the ignition chamber, while minimizing the high peak pressures, the ignition chamber and spill port are constructed so as to have an extensive homogenization of the fuel proportion injected into the ignition chamber. In preferred embodiments, the ratio of the volume of the ignition chamber to the total compression volume of the engine is in the range of 0.10 to 0.30 and the ratio of the volume of the spill port to the total compression volume is in the range of 0.01 to 0.25.

  • Patent number: 4000614
Abstract: A mixture-compressing reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine with two separate cylinder rows and a single mixture-producing device, in which one row is supplied with a slightly richer air/fuel mixture from a common mixture-producing device which is then leaned down by the admixture of additional air while the other cylinder row is supplied with an air/fuel mixture which is as accurately as possible stoichiometric; oxygen probes are thereby used upstream of the respective catalysts to control a valve controlling the additional air inlet to the one cylinder row and the fuel supply to the mixture-producing device.

  • Patent number: 3988890
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preventing an overheating of an exhaust gas purification block for internal combustion engines in case of a high proportion of combustible gas components in the exhaust gases, in which the exhaust gases are adapted to be conducted past the exhaust gas purification block by way of a controllable by-pass line; at least during the periods when the by-pass line is opened, air preferably in the form of an air jet directed opposite to the normal exhaust gas flow is blown into the line leading into the exhaust gas purification block whereby preferably the air jet passes over the inlet opening of the exhaust gas purification block in a transverse direction.

  • Patent number: 3984207
Abstract: A mounting support for a catalyst body which is adapted to be installed into an exhaust gas line of an internal combustion engine; the forces necessary for fixing the catalyst body which act in the longitudinal direction are thereby produced by walls of the mounting support which are located in front of and/or to the rear of the catalyst body, as viewed in the longitudinal direction of the mounting support, on that side on which the forces act laterally on the catalyst body; these walls support themselves at a distance from the catalyst body as measured in the longitudinal direction.

  • Patent number: 3948229
Abstract: A four-cycle internal combustion engine with external ignition, which is equipped with an intake or suction manifold and with a separate forced air supply to the exhaust channels; to that end an air supply channel is cast-in adjacent one of the exhaust channels provided in a cast cylinder head, whereby the air supply channel is in communication with a slot extending along one suction pipe side in the longitudinal direction of the engine block; the slot is covered off on its open side by a flange of the intake or suction manifold and is operatively connected with the individual exhaust channels by way of cross bores provided in the cylinder head.
