Patent number: 12248047Abstract: The invention provides a method for performing magnetic resonance imaging, MRI, which exploits prior knowledge of the interactions between electromagnetic fields and spins in the sampled object. This technique is able to provide shorter acquisition times with respect to traditional (Nyquist-Shannon limited) MRI. The method is based on an encoding matrix formalism constructed from the specific knowledge of how every spin would evolve in time depending on their position for a given pulse sequence. This particular previous knowledge has not been fully exploited previously by traditional MRI techniques. Moreover, the method of the invention can be used in combination with other schemes, such as compressed sensing, parallel imaging, or deep learning, for further shortening the MRI scan time.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2021Date of Patent: March 11, 2025Assignees: CONSEJO SUPERIOR DE INVESTIGACIONES CIENTÍFICAS (CSIC), UNIVERSITAT POLITÈCNICA DE VALÈNCIAInventors: Fernando Galve, Joseba Alonso, José Miguel Algarín, José Maria Benlloch

Publication number: 20240095090Abstract: A cloud-based framework dynamically utilizes a distributed pool of accelerators to parallelize calculations of physical simulation (physics) solver code partitioned across multiple accelerators and compute nodes of one or more virtual data centers in a virtualized computing environment. Multi-level partitioning logic of the framework partitions an input data set of the physics solver code into code groups configured to run on the accelerators using a “hardware agnostic” software layer that abstracts differences in processing architectures to allow targeting of different types of accelerators. A predictive scheduler interacts with the multi-level partitioning logic to locate and predictively reserve the accelerators within the pool, dynamically access and utilize the accelerators when needed, and then promptly release them upon completion of the calculations.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 17, 2022Publication date: March 21, 2024Inventors: Yasushi Saito, Thomas D. Publication number: 20230409663Abstract: An automatic differentiation (AD) technique and implementation processes multi-physics solver code entirely on graphics processing units (GPUs) to automatically differentiate one or more outputs of the code with respect to one or more inputs. The technique provides a “factory” framework that ingests arbitrarily complex solver code to produce a version of the code that is automatically differentiated (AD code) and mapped to the GPUs. The technique provides a derivative of the solver code output with respect to the inputs that enables analysis of the output of the computed solver code with initially provided inputs coherent with sensitivity analysis of that output as the inputs are changed. The adjoint information derived from solver code execution (AD code) computed by the AD technique may also be used to estimate one or more estimates of the numerical error in a solution to the physical simulation.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 20, 2023Publication date: December 21, 2023Inventors: Klaus Leppkes, Michael Thomas Mara, Juan José Alonso

Publication number: 20230410428Abstract: A technique manages graphics processing units (GPUs), as well as associated algorithm advancements, to improve and effectively hide computational costs of adaptive mesh refinement (AMR). A cloud-based framework dynamically utilizes a distributed pool of the GPUs to parallelize computations of physical simulation software (solver) partitioned across multiple GPUs. A highly parallelized and distributed architecture of the framework provides a hybrid approach that operates partly on GPUs, e.g., to perform the solver computations, and partly on general-purpose processing units (CPUs) to accelerate portions of AMR and mesh processing of an AMR module. In an illustrative embodiment, the technique leverages the GPUs to perform as much of the AMR module processing (e.g., algorithms that rely on fixed topology) that can be naturally and efficiently implemented on the GPUs, while maintaining those portions of processing that do not naturally map onto the GPUs (e.g., algorithms with dynamic topology changes) on CPUs.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 20, 2023Publication date: December 21, 2023Inventors: Adrien Loseille, Michael Thomas Mara, Dries Kimpe, Juan José Alonso

Patent number: 11796836Abstract: Configuring ophthalmic lenses that reduce oblique aberrations based on a wearer's accommodative demand values is disclosed. The accommodative demand values include A_(rel?) and A_(rel+) depend on object vergence L. The accommodative demand values are considered to and ensure no or reduced eye strain to the wearer. An improved merit function ?? is calculated based on the accommodative demand values. In the calculation, accommodative term A is a smooth and continuous function of both the object distance L and the spherical component of the power error. This ensures the accommodative demand values are well below maximum relative accommodations available to the wearer to prevent eye fatigue. The calculation may also include a smooth and continuous thresholding function ƒ that optimizes the merit function. The calculation may also include evaluation of the power error associated with various object vergencies for every direction of sight.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2023Date of Patent: October 24, 2023Assignee: Indizen Optical Technologies S.L.Inventors: Eva Chamorro, José Miguel Cleva, Claudia Irazusta, Eduardo Pascual, José Alonso Fernández
