  • Publication number: 20150217018
Abstract: It permits, without energy consumption, the emission of negative ions to purify the environment. In addition, it has biocidal action to eliminate microbes and bacteria. Furthermore, it emits infrared radiation to dry out walls, ceilings and objects in the room, thereby removing moisture. Therefore, it comprises a framework (1, 2), and a first body (3) that emits negative ions, which comprises a first anodized aluminium plate (7) and a second anodized aluminium plate (8), coated with a ceramic paint with silver-doped zeolites, which, in addition to emitting negative ions, constitutes a nanosilver-based biocidal compound. Said aluminium plates (7, 8) are heated uniformly by a conductor wire (6) in order to emit infrared radiation.

  • Publication number: 20140347431
Abstract: An apparatus and method for automatically calibrating a media sensor configured to detect advancing print media in a printing device. In some embodiments, the apparatus selects a first light intensity level and a second light intensity level greater than the first light intensity level. A light source unit, such as a light emitting diode or laser diode is activated to emit light at the second light intensity level. The light passes though print media, for example, a roll of self-adhesive labels, that is advanced along a print path of the printing device. The amount of light transmitted through the print media is measured as the print media advances. If the measured light increases, the light source unit is reactivated to emit light at the first light intensity level. In some embodiments, the apparatus identifies whether print media has changed or an out-of-stock condition exists.

  • Publication number: 20130299434
Abstract: A system for removing ammonia from wastewater includes a series of interconnected reactor tubes that each comprise an outer cathode and an inner cathode that is centrally positioned within the outer cathode to form a spacing of between 3 mm and 10 mm through which wastewater may flow. At least one of the reactor tubes includes an inner cathode having a MMO coating. Hypochlorite or another chlorine based element can be supplied to wastewater prior to passing through the reactor tubes. The presence of the hypochlorite within the wastewater and the generation of chlorine by the MMO coated cathode result in an increased level of hypochlorite being present in the wastewater which speeds the breakdown of ammonia. A portion of the wastewater processed through the reactor tubes can be diverted through a feedback path to the input to the reactor tubes to increase the amount of hypochlorite present in the unprocessed wastewater.

  • Publication number: 20130228464
Abstract: The present invention is generally directed to an apparatus for harvesting algae using a two-stage approach. The two-stage approach includes a flocculation stage and a dewatering stage. The flocculation stage is implemented within a first-stage flocculation tank in which algae suspended within a growth medium is flocculated. The flocculated algae is then fed to a second-stage flotation tank in which electrodes are used to produce hydrogen and oxygen bubbles which attach to the flocculated algae causing the flocculated algae to float to the surface. The mat of floating algae can then be skimmed off the surface of the growth medium.
