  • Publication number: 20020069720
Abstract: A braking arrangement for rotatably supporting an element rotatable about an axis such as a control wheel, rotary control knob or the like, for example for a vehicle fresh air nozzle, has a plug-shaped casing with an end portion and a peripherally extending flange extending away from the end portion and having a circular external peripheral surface. The external surface of the flange forms a rotary mounting surface for the rotatable element. The flange encloses a central guide space for two braking members which have braking portions facing diametrally away from each other. The braking portions extend through transverse holes in the flange. The two braking members are urged away from each other by a spring disposed therebetween.

  • Patent number: 6068676
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for producing steels with predominantly high Cr content and/or ferro-alloys, wherein the metal charge is melted in a melting crucible, is alloyed, refined and reduced, and wherein process gases are simultaneously supplied through bottom nozzles. A melting crucible is used with a specific reaction volume of 0.4 to 1.5 m.sup.3 /t steel and the injection rates of the process gases are controlled in the range of 0.1 to 3.0 N m.sup.3 /t/min. The solid charge material is melted by an electric arc and air/nitrogen are injected simultaneously and, after forming a liquid sump, a gas mixture of oxygen and inert gas is injected. After adding slag-forming constituents and alloying agents, the oxygen throughput is increased and the power of the electric arc is reduced accordingly. The oxygen throughput is reduced in relation to the inert gas during refining and decarburization takes place as a result of increasing the electric arc with low chromium slag formation.

  • Patent number: 5735312
Abstract: A sanitary water valve having control elements consisting of at least two discs. The first disc is arranged immovably and constitutes the valve seat disc and the second disc, which constitutes the control disc, is arranged movably on the first disc and has a surface conduit for deflection functions which can simultaneously be made to overlap the inflow apertures and outflow aperture on the first disc. The second disc includes one or more depressions which substantially reduce the actuation forces required to open the water valve and as a result, operating efficiency is considerably enhanced.

  • Patent number: 5625758
Abstract: A communication process and accompanying apparatus for enabling communication between different areas of the printing process, e.g. between the preliminary printing stage and the printing press, in either direction so that data for regulating the printing press can be obtained from data which does not depend on the type of printing press and the data to be printed which are received from the preliminary printing stage can be influenced by the printing press itself. The apparatus has a communication structure formed by a central main data processing station, with which a plurality of printing units of the printing press are interlinked for joint preparation of a job, and a decentralized data processing substation for each area of the printing process which can be connected in turn with the main data processing station. The connection between the substations and the main station is formed by device-independent interfaces which allow data to be transferred in either direction.

  • Patent number: 5602867
Abstract: An arrangement for operating an arc furnace with two vessels for making steel. Enough liquid raw iron is added to account for 70% of the total starting metallurgicals. The supply of electricity to one of the vessels is discontinued but not to the other vessel. The injection of oxygen through a lance accompanied by the addition of sponge or coolant and lime, is carried out in one vessel while an electric-arc furnace phase is carried out in the other vessel, whereby additional sponge or coolant is melted with less oxygen and additional lime or coal is added. Electrodes are mounted on an arm and can be pivoted over either vessel as desired.

  • Patent number: 5497530
Abstract: In order to reduce the energy consumption of the suction unit, on the one hand, and to improve the cleaning effect, on the other hand, of a wiper device for hard surfaces, in particular a window wiper, comprising a slit-shaped suction nozzle, on which a flexible wiper lip is arranged, which protrudes forwardly beyond the suction nozzle, it is suggested that the wiper lip be held on a wall of the suction nozzle and drawn against the opposite wall of the suction nozzle under the influence of a suction stream in the suction nozzle and thereby close the suction nozzle.

  • Patent number: 5382964
Abstract: To compensate for tolerances and variations in tolerances in a recording system in which a thermal transfer foil is passed between a image recording element (3) and a printing form carrier (1), the thermal transfer foil, for example of a polyester base (9), has an intermediate layer (8) applied thereto on which a meltable substance layer (7, 7'), for example on a polyethylene base, is located. The intermediate layer (8) is thermally volume expandable, by including therein either a foaming agent or moisture or other gas which, upon application of heat, causes foaming or the formation of gas or steam bubbles to expand its volume. Tolerances 6 of up to about 1 mm, thus, can be compensated and pressure variations and surface variations between the thermal image recording element (3) and the form carrier (1) are no longer critical.
