  • Publication number: 20050189343
Abstract: A heating element protection apparatus for a mass-flow sensor may include a heating element disposed in a gas, a gas temperature sensor disposed in the gas to sense a temperature of the gas, a slope detector to measure a slope of the temperature as power is supplied to the heating element, and a heating element controller to supply power to the heating element to replace heat dissipated by the gas. The heating element controller may detect a temperature of the heating element and may supply power to the heating element based on the heating element temperature and the gas temperature, and the power may be switched off for a predetermined period of time if a magnitude of the slope is greater than a reference magnitude.

  • Patent number: 6398988
Abstract: A rear signal lamp of an automotive vehicle comprising a lamp housing and a curved cover lens for enclosing a thin light managing system. The thin light managing systems includes a plurality of backlight light-emitting diodes mounted in a light mounting substrate and secured to the lamp housing. A control module operatively connected to the light-emitting diodes for controlling the operation and illumination of the light-emitting diodes. A reflector matrix having a plurality of reflector cones corresponding to each of the light-emitting diodes in the mounting substrate and a hybrid optics panel having a direct lensing section covering the reflector matrix and light-emitting diodes and a double redirecting light pipe section surrounding the lensing section. A single light-emitting diodes is coupled along spaced apart quadrants of the redirecting light pipe.

  • Patent number: 6275563
Abstract: An apparatus and method for a wellsite &ggr;-ray analysis of core samples is implemented. A wheeled carriage supporting a &ggr;-ray detector stably straddles a core sample, which may be encased in a core barrel. A bracket attached to the carriage may hold a radionuclide source of &ggr; radiation positioned distally from the detector, thereby forming a space therebetween for passage of the core. The density of the core may be determined by counting the &ggr; flux attenuated by the core; by traversing the carriage along a length of the core, the density may be determined as a function of position, and disrupted core or partial recovery detected thereby. Additionally, the natural &ggr; emission of the core may be observed by traversing the apparatus along the core without the radionuclide source.

  • Patent number: 6097549
Abstract: A bireflective lens element comprising a light input surface and a direct transmitting area communicating with the light input surface. A light source is disposed adjacent to the light input surface for projecting light into the lens element to create a light emitting assembly. A first portion of input light is directed through the lens elements in a first predetermined pattern. A primary and a secondary reflecting area is between the light input surface and an illumination surface surrounding the direct light transmitting area. A second portion of input light is redirected through the lens element to the illumination surface in a second predetermined pattern. Specifically, the secondary reflective area has a plurality of extracting facets extending inwardly into the secondary reflective area for intercepting light from the primary reflective area.

  • Patent number: 4509014
Abstract: A nuclear magnetic resonance gyroscope which derives angular rotation thef from the phases of precessing nuclear moments utilizes a single-resonance cell situated in the center of a uniform DC magnetic field. The field is generated by current flow through a circular array of coils between parallel plates. It also utilizes a pump and read-out beam and associated electronics for signal processing and control. Encapsulated in the cell for sensing rotation are odd isotopes of Mercury Hg.sup.199 and Hg.sup.201. Unpolarized intensity modulated light from a pump lamp is directed by lenses to a linear polarizer, quarter wave plate combination producing circularly polarized light. The circularly polarized light is reflected by a mirror to the cell transverse to the field for optical pumping of the isotopes. Unpolarized light from a readout lamp is directed by lenses to another linear polarizer.
