  • Patent number: 9868581
Abstract: Microwave cooking packages suitable for use as microwave popcorn packages include at least one panel (e.g., first and second panels) formed of a vertically rigid material. A flexible portion is attached to the panels. The flexible portion may be formed of a polyester film material such as a biaxially-oriented polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film, which may be at least partially transparent. The flexible portion (and panels) defines a bag construction configured to contain a popcorn charge and to be expandable between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration when the popcorn charge is subjected to a popping operation. The microwave cooking package may include a vent assembly configured to at least partially open when the bag configuration is in an expanded configuration to vent the bag construction. The vent assembly includes a first portion a second portion of the bag construction that is configured to be folded against the first portion.

  • Patent number: 9844920
Abstract: A system and method of manufacturing reinforced bags having reinforcing elements applied about the bags to support the bags in an opened and/or upstanding configuration. A web of bag material can be fed from a supply and can be folded and secured to form the bags. A series of reinforcing strips can be fed through an adhesive application station for application of an adhesive material thereto in a desired pattern. The reinforcing strips and bags are brought into registration and are adhesively attached to form the reinforced bags.

  • Patent number: 9751288
Abstract: A method for forming a laminate can comprise moving an initial laminate and a sacrificial web at least partially coated with an adhesive in a downstream direction. The initial laminate can comprise a base web and an interactive web comprising a retained section and a scrap section. The method also can comprise forming a compound laminate by nipping the sacrificial web and at least the scrap section of the interactive web between a raised feature of a nip roller and an opposing support surface so that the adhesive at least partially bonds the sacrificial web to the scrap section. In addition, the method can comprise separating the compound laminate into a resultant laminate, comprising the base web and at least the retained section of the interactive web, and a sacrificial laminate, comprising the sacrificial web and at least the scrap section of the interactive web.

  • Patent number: 9701103
Abstract: Portions of microwave energy interactive material may be cut and removed during intermediate steps in a lamination processes, so that remaining microwave energy interactive material in a resultant laminate is arranged in a pattern. Regarding the removal of the portions of the microwave energy interactive material, a compound laminate may be delaminated into parts, and one of the parts may be a sacrificial laminate that includes the removed portions of the microwave energy interactive material.

  • Publication number: 20170166384
Abstract: A container for holding a food product. The container can comprise a sidewall at least partially defining a cavity of the container, a flange extending from the sidewall, and a material comprising at least a base layer and a barrier layer on a face of the base layer. The flange and the sidewall each can comprise a portion of the material. The barrier layer can at least partially form an interior surface of the container, and the interior surface can at least partially extend along the cavity of the container. An absorption feature can extend in at least the barrier layer for allowing liquids to pass through the barrier layer and into the base layer.

  • Publication number: 20170015079
Abstract: A system and method of at least partially forming reinforced packages. The method comprises moving a web of material in a downstream direction through a web forming section, at least partially forming at least a bag portion in the web of material during the moving the web of material through the web forming section, forming an attached web by adhering a construct to the bag portion of the web of material, and moving the attached web through a separating station. The moving the attached web can comprise moving the construct with the web of material. The method further can comprise separating the bag portion from a remainder of the web of material to form a bag during the moving the attached web through the separating station, the bag being attached to the construct.
