    Abstract: A compact portable coordinate measuring machine (CMM) with a large working volume for measuring workpieces is provided. The CMM includes a vertical support, a workpiece stage and a movement configuration that provides relative motion between a measurement probe and a workpiece. The movement configuration includes a vertical translation mechanism with a vertical translation element that couples to a vertical guide and moves over a vertical translation range. The workpiece stage is located above a top end of the vertical support and at least a majority of the vertical guide and the vertical translation range is located below a top end of the workpiece stage. In various implementations, the movement configuration may also include a rotary motion configuration and a horizontal translation mechanism. A controller controls the movement configuration to provide relative motion between the measurement probe and a workpiece that is located in the working volume on the workpiece stage.

    Abstract: A method for controlling mollusk populations is provided. Invasive mollusk populations may colonize lakes, rivers, streams, or other water sources such as commercial or industrial facilities. Mollusk populations may be eliminated or controlled by administering an organic acid solution to a raw water source colonized by mollusks. Organic acids such as lactic acid, citric acid, gluconic acid, or glycolic acid may be utilized. Invasive mollusks may also attach to static surfaces such as marine equipment, boat hulls, or live wells. Attached mollusk or mollusk veligers may be eliminated or controlled by spraying attachment surfaces with an organic acid solution.

Several amorphous iron-based metal alloys are also presented, including corrosion-resistant amorphous iron-based metal alloys and radiation-shielding amorphous iron-based metal alloys.

    Abstract: Various systems and methods are provided that allow a weld sequencer to use a statistical analysis of generated reports to automatically determine weld parameter limits for the welds defined by various functions in a sequence file. For example, the weld sequencer can take reports generated for a specific type of part and statistically analyze the weld data included in the reports according to a set of analysis parameters provided by a user. The weld sequencer can use the statistical analysis to identify and remove outlier data and define a set of weld parameter limits based on the remaining data. The weld parameter limits can define a low limit and/or a high limit for one or more weld parameters associated with a function. The weld sequencer can then update the sequence file to include the weld parameter limits.

The system includes an arc welding power supply configured to output a welding waveform to a welding torch. The welding power supply includes a waveform generator to generate an output welding waveform. The power supply also includes a controller to optimize the output welding waveform based on a desired welding temperature. The optimization is performed by adjusting at least one of a power ratio and a duration ratio. The power ratio is a ratio of a power of a negative portion of the welding waveform to a power of a positive portion of the welding waveform, and the duration ratio is a ratio of a duration of a negative portion of the welding waveform to a duration of a positive portion of the welding waveform. The desired welding temperature is one of a temperature setpoint and a temperature range.

    Abstract: Deposition of carbene monolayers that excluded starting anions, such as iodide ions, has been achieved. Anions such as iodide are a typical contaminant in carbene hydrogen carbonate salts when synthesized using the state-of-the-art method. A method is described for eliminating substantially all starting anion (e.g., iodide) contamination from the monolayer. Air stable, purified carbenes precursors were used to deposit an intact monolayer on the surface of some industrially relevant metals. The monolayer's ability to protect these metals against, for example, oxidation has been demonstrated.
