  • Patent number: 9871598
Abstract: A system of delivering power by light, through a fiber. A system for remote operation of an instrument includes a fiber-coupled power laser source, which has an output fiber with a first core diameter. A fiber taper having a wide end and a narrow end, is used to connect the fiber-coupled power laser source to a system fiber having a second core diameter less than the first core diameter. The system fiber delivers optical power to the remote module, in which a fiber-coupled photovoltaic assembly having an input fiber connected to the system fiber, converts the received light to electrical power. The photovoltaic assembly has a first electrical output and a second electrical output, and the photovoltaic assembly is configured to supply power at a first voltage at the first electrical output, and to supply power at a second voltage at the second electrical output.

  • Patent number: 9606311
Abstract: A method includes obtaining a substrate having at least one exposed metal surface. The method also includes electro-depositing metal onto the at least one exposed metal surface of the substrate and around at least a portion of an optical fiber to secure the optical fiber to the substrate. The substrate and the electro-deposited metal are configured to remove heat from the optical fiber. The method could further include electro-depositing metal around a sacrificial material and removing the sacrificial material to form at least one cooling channel through the electro-deposited metal. The optical fiber could include a polymer coating, where a portion of the polymer coating is removed at an end of the optical fiber. The substrate and the electro-deposited metal could be faceted at an input of the optical fiber and at an output of the optical fiber. The optical fiber could have a coiled arrangement on the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20170056756
Abstract: A motorized skateboard comprising a board and a plurality of wheels attached with the board is presented. At least one of the wheels includes an electric motor contained within the wheel to propel the skateboard when activated. In one case, the motorized skateboard comprises two wheels and where the wheels are pivotally attached with the board to assist in board turning. The wheels may also be shaped so that they are convex to assist in board turning. There may also be a tread disposed over and between the wheels such that the tread moves as the wheels rotate.
