    Abstract: A feedwater heater for an HRSG is provided with a monitoring unit for detecting the presence of condensation in the feedwater heater. The monitoring unit includes a dielectric band around one of the tubes of the feedwater heater near the location where the feedwater is directed into the heater and a conductive band located around the dielectric band. The unit also includes a conductivity sensor installed between a ground on the feedwater heater and the conductive element. Hot gases containing moisture pass through the feedwater heater, and if the temperature of surfaces in the region of the tube around which the dielectric and conductive bands extend drops below the dew point of the gas, an electrically conductive condensate will appear those surfaces and on the tube and will flow over the dielectric band, completing an electric circuit between the tube and the conductive band. The conductivity sensor detects this and hence detects the presence of the condensation.

    Abstract: A material supply for a material application system such as a powder coating application system includes a feed hopper in the form of a duct. The duct is connectable to negative pressure during a color change process and is disconnected from the negative pressure during a spray application process. The negative pressure can be provided from a powder overspray recovery system such as an after filter blower. Dampers are provided to control air flow through the hopper duct and to allow the duct to be at ambient pressure during a supply mode of operation. The hopper duct also includes a suction interface for pumps, in the form of a siphon ring, as well as a fluidizing function. A removable sieve is provided with an optional vibration feature. Powder may be added to the duct via an access door or transfer pumps for new powder and/or reclaimed powder overspray.

    Abstract: A hermetically sealed glass package and method for manufacturing the hermetically sealed glass package are described herein using an OLED display as an example. In one embodiment, the hermetically sealed glass package is manufactured by providing a first substrate plate and a second substrate plate. The second substrate contains at least one transition or rare earth metal such as iron, copper, vanadium, manganese, cobalt, nickel, chromium, neodymium and/or cerium. A sensitive thin-film device that needs protection is deposited onto the first substrate plate. A laser is then used to heat the doped second substrate plate in a manner that causes a portion of it to swell and form a hermetic seal that connects the first substrate plate to the second substrate plate and also protects the thin film device.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for removing powder overspray from the exterior surfaces within a spray booth, especially the exterior surfaces of a spray gun assembly. These surfaces may include the spray gun housing and nozzle, a tube mount housing for the tube mount configurations, and in some embodiments the various hoses and lines that are coupled to the spray gun in a bar mount configuration. In one embodiment, powder overspray is removed from such surfaces or other surfaces within the spray booth by applying a cleaning or powder removal agent/article in contact with the surfaces to knock off, wipe, blow or otherwise remove the powder overspray. The cleaning agent/article may take many forms, including but not limited to fluids including air or liquid, negative pressure or suction, charged ions, positive pressure within the spray gun assembly, or any number and variety of cleaning devices such as but not limited to brushes, cloth, sponges, wipers and so on.

    Abstract: An electrostatic spray gun apparatus includes a spray gun housing and a nozzle attached to a spray end of the housing, and a powder path that extends in a substantially straight line along an axis of the housing from the powder inlet to the powder outlet. The powder path is in the form of an enclosed smooth powder passage that is substantially continuous and uninterrupted from the powder inlet to the powder outlet to eliminate substantially all recesses or gaps that could capture or trap powder. The powder passage is formed by a plurality of tubular segments that are aligned along the housing axis and abut end to end. that when assembled in the housing axially compress the segments together to substantially eliminate dead spots or recesses to form the continuous smooth powder path. A gun purge function is provided that allows a purge line to be installed on the gun assembly. A cartridge valve and conductor assembly is provided between the gun electrode in the nozzle and the output of the voltage multiplier.

    Abstract: A hermetically sealed glass package and method for manufacturing the hermetically sealed glass package are described herein using an OLED display as an example. Basically, the hermetically sealed OLED display is manufactured by providing a first substrate plate and a second substrate plate and depositing a frit onto the second substrate plate. OLEDs are deposited on the first substrate plate. An irradiation source (e.g., laser, infrared light) is then used to heat the frit which melts and forms a hermetic seal that connects the first substrate plate to the second substrate plate and also protects the OLEDs. The frit is glass that was doped with at least one transition metal and possibly a CTE lowering filler such that when the irradiation source heats the frit, it softens and forms a bond. This enables the frit to melt and form the hermetic seal while avoiding thermal damage to the OLEDs.

    Abstract: A liquid fuel purge system is disclosed for flushing liquid fuel from the combustion chambers of a gas turbine. The liquid purge system includes a three-way valve to pass liquid fuel and, alternatively, purge air to the combustion chambers. The gas turbine may operate on liquid fuel or gaseous fuel. When the turbine is switched to burn gaseous fuel, the liquid fuel remaining in the liquid fuel system is flushed by purge air provided by a liquid fuel purge system.

    Abstract: This invention relates to the reproduction of all the essential moisture sorption characteristics of dead wildland fuels through use of an inorganic fuel moisture analog sensor. This inorganic fuel moisture analog sensor is calibrated to and reproduces all of the essential moisture sorption characteristics of dead wildland fuels without being subject to any of the undesirable characteristics associated with wood sensors. This analog is keyed to selectable response timelags, the size of these dead fuels, their water sorption processes, their radiation characteristics, and their thermal properties. This analog is fabricated from activated aluminum as the active material with calcium aluminate as the bonding agent.
